It would take one of these athletes dying or getting severely ill with long covid in a few months to get most people to even stop and think for a second. And then it wouldn’t last.

I think the wrinkle or part of the wrinkle is the takeaway of people having a different relationship or view on context. I think I lean towards you with having multiple feelings on things, depending on the context, but I don’t offer my view to refute anyone who can maintain a stricter context of looking at everything through the lens of the genocide our government is funding and expresses it.

Someone above said all Harris supporters support genocide and I disagree from my individual POV of myself but I think we need voices conveying that and, when I look at it from a macro perspective, I agree with it. I think all Americans are responsible for keeping our government accountable and you can’t benefit from living here and not account for the cost to others. I’d rather someone say I support atrocities than everyone be a cheerleader for a political party that will not be pressured to move left.

I’m sympathetic to the argument that it may not be as effective, even if I somewhat disagree with it…but “I might get insulted or hurt/killed” as an reason not to do so is pretty weak considering what the CRM did and went through. MLK’s people did a march through rural Alabama for voting rights! Hell even the racist ass McGovern was like wtf is he doing he’s gonna get himself and everyone else killed lol

Honest question, our current stance on Israel is what? Cause it seems like Biden is doing awful service by doing nothing but giving money to Israel for the war and telling Netanyahu, I DONT LIKE IT, but okay.

I don’t mind people saying things like that but I also think it oversimplifies things that are more complicated than simple statements like that and deserve pushback and discussion

That is more or less our material policy. For decades, even mild criticism of Israel or the simple proposal that Palestine be liberated was not acceptable in American politics. Now that Israel is in the process of committing genocide, some more criticism is permissible. But i think at best our government puts it on Netanyahu as an individual actor, rather than recognize this as the logical conclusion of a settler-colonial state (as highlighted by the ~~insane~~ things high profile Israeli officials and media outlets are saying right now). But regardless, we continue to sell them weapons.

He’s doing more than giving money to Israel. We’re giving weapons like bombs that kill civilians and providing international cover by doing things like vetoing anything the UN tries to do to help Palestinians. It is so much more harmful than just giving money or doing nothing which would be bad enough. But saying he’s doing nothing doesn’t capture the evil that he his doing

Right, this is a good point - it sounds shocking to say that people supporting Kamala are supporting the horrific stuff in Palestine, but materially it’s true. Hell, I’d go further and just say every American is actually supporting it, because of our tax dollars. So the question to me is always going to come down to “what do we do to mitigate against our support for genocide.” If i was alive during the holocaust and aware of it, for example, I’d like to think i would never shut up about it. Especially if our government was directly aiding the Nazis (which, btw, oops lol).

I’m just gonna put it like this: you can hit them on genocide without being like “how dare they use a tweet I liked over half a decade ago,” that just comes across as really silly to me. Also it’s just a conspiracy the account was sold but I fully buy into it. The clap back was funny though. That’s all I’ll say
