I have never seen commercials at shows before lol

Oh this is rough (though I don't know the full context of it)

During Green Day they would play clips of skateboarding sponsored by Monster between sets, on top of the typical band promo stuff. Made me want to hop onto a board and pound some Monsters so I guess it worked out well for all involved

  5. Can’t watch the video now, but if it’s between sets I don’t think it’s a big deal. Commercials during the show would be weird and distracting, I think.

  6. ugh, that would really suck for everybody if those get pulled too...

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

When I saw Slipknot in 2022 there were commercials for energy drinks and video games, it was very surreal

Halfway through the Ice Cube (NWA set) at Riot Fest they showed the trailer for straight outta compton which was insanely cringey and weird lol

this one feels a bit more excusable than a straight corporate ad? I think he was an exec producer on that one? it's not the same, but similar energy to like, Daft Punk at Coachella 2013 ads or whatever they did to hype up Random Access Memories

Shed shows have ads on the screens in-between bands all the time. Though I can't recall a specific time seeing a full commercial with audio playing on an artist's stage setup.

  11. In the middle of Papa Roach's set a year or two ago, they played a video/commercial kinda thing about mental illness, and it was actually really powerful and moving. But that's different than a commercial for an actual product or something.

I generally assume that if I'm at a stadium or amphitheater there's going to be advertising everywhere. I saw those Monster ads between bands at Green Day last night and it barely registered.

But if I were at a smaller club, or even a theater, I think it would really catch me off-guard. "Joyce Manor is up next! Anyway, here's an a commercial for Progressive Insurance!"

Definitely but maybe play it before you come out or something just weird to show a movie trailer in the middle of your set

Yeah all the one’s I’ve been to have ads for upcoming shows and local sponsors. Didn’t think it was unusual

Off topic but I did research on Jacoby’s work and he does a ton of work in his personal time working with mental health charities and family members dealing with suicide of loved ones. When you look into all he does he has to be one of the nicer, charitable people in hard rock.

  17. 100%, that's what the whole "commercial" was about. I don't know what else to call it, but yeah, it was really cool seeing that at a packed alt rock show, where I assume most dudes there think therapy is weak or whatever.

I highly recommend everyone go to a show at Starland Ballroom & lose your mind whenever the IHOP slide comes up

when i took my dad to see Lynyrd Skynyrd, hank williams jr, and 38 special a few years ago, they played the trailer for the upcoming at the time documentary about LS. and all the people in the crowd were so hyped for it UNTIL the part of the doc where they talked about how progressive he was, loved hippies, loved gay people, etc.. and you could feel the deflation of the losers in the crowd. it was fantastic

When I’ve gone to every hardcore show ever they have said

Just imagining some random hardcore band starting out a set by giving a shout out to their corporate sponsor. "We are Counterparts, this set is brought to you by Subway. Eat Fresh!"
