    Okay, that was pretty funny.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I like Two Graves, Lacerate and (to a lesser extent) Animals well enough, but I'm not still following Anberlin after all this time for more music like that. It works well juxtaposed with the softer, synthier stuff that made their later career so appealing to me, so I'll be curious to see how much of that they continue to make going forward.

See I like the mix of the two - get loud and weird and hard and synthy all the time

Was listening to this again today and Nothing Lost sounds like it could have fit perfectly on Vital.

This. I could see the softer songs on Vega fitting on Vital/Devotion too (particularly Banshee and Body Language).

Body Language reminds me a bit of New Surrender, tbh.

  7. Tried to listen to this earlier today and just turned it off. I love both EPs all the way through, thought their take on heavier Anberlin and new wave Anberlin was the best it had ever been, like they were combining all of their identities into one cohesive whole. And while the mix/master on the EP wasn't great, I just wasn't a fan of the changes they made even more in the remaster. Didn't enjoy the tracklist changes either. Then you add the two Matty songs, which feel like generic heavy band (Seven) and generic alt pop punk band (Walk Alone) and I'm just gonna gonna go back to the EPs.

Walk Alone is pretty handily the weakest song in the band's discography up to this point. And it really sticks out on the record.

That said, Seven has surprised me. A lot. I did not like it, now I might even like it more than a couple of the Stephen led tracks here.

Just call the new project Vega and drop the half and half shit. Idk. I’ll never get it.

New episode of Lead Singer Syndrome has Matty Mullins on it. Not listened yet but thought some would be interested.

The stark difference in quality between walk alone and 7 imo is crazy. Still not great, but at least it goes hard

If I heard Walk Alone with no context or band name, I'd likely never listen again.

For Seven...it's a cool song as it is, but I can't help imagine that Stephen vocals on it would've been huge.

After listening to the album as a whole, I'll be honest, while both of the Matty songs are easily my 2 least favorite Anberlin songs, I honestly preferred Walk Alone. Seven has that "Fade into the Vega era now" line that literally makes me cringe, Walk Alone isn't good but at least it can be mindlessly fun and I find it way easier to tank 3 minutes of that than 5 minutes of Seven.

I’m living in a beautiful world where I’ve not heard either and I have no intention of tarnishing my experience of either brilliant EP with this Vega business. It’s a nice place to be.

asked on their IG what Vega meant, prompting Christian to respond "investigate the Greater Key of Solomon"... ...okay?

I still think the chorus of walk alone is quite catchy. But like as a single song I like and revisit from a late stage ADTR album or something.

It's catchy, but pretty empty from a lyrical perspective. It sounds like the sort of thing Spotify puts on when you're done listening to Anberlin, where it's kind of in the same vein but doesn't click in the way the name brand band does.

my partner and i were talking about Seven and how hollow the lyricism felt, and it reminded me a bit of the lyricism of the Danish metal band VOLA. good songs musically, but sometimes the lyrics just feel oddly constructed

I love VOLA, but yeah the lyrics are usually very shallow. I always chalked it up to English most likely not being their primary language though.
