Jealous that you saw worlds live. Playing those Vermont courses is on my bucket list. Seeing the pros play live is unreal. The distance and accuracy that they have are astounding and it doesn’t quite come through when watching it on YouTube.
I still play dg probably once a week. 3/4s of the time it’s just a solo round because my old dg buddies are pretty busy or don’t play much anymore.

I try to get out once a week for a solo lunch round. Wish I could get out with my friends more often, but having a kid makes it hard to find that 2-3 hours outside of work hours to get it in. I do miss how social it used to be, but I love throwing discs regardless.

Yeah, I like playing with people but I find playing by myself is calm and meditative. It’s a much different vibe that I also love

Especially this time of year. Just having an excuse to go walk around in the woods while the leaves are changing colors is amazing. I try to slow down and appreciate my surroundings and not get so caught up in thinking about my shots.

Flying to Denver on Friday with my buddy for the weekend to play some courses out there and watch the Braves play the Rockies. Good times ahead!

Are you playing Beaver Ranch? That’s my favorite of that area

I haven't been playing a ton lately, but my son is 3.5 and is just now getting to where he'll legitimately play 3-4 holes before getting bored of it. I'm probably just being a proud dad, but he's got a cannon, probably throwing it about 50-75 feet, and could get legitimate pars on really short holes or bogies on holes in the 250-300ft range.

It’s just too damn hot to play however it’s gonna get down to the 80s over the next week so I’ll be trying to go throw one night after work. Sunset frolfs are always my favorite

I was doing some putting practice in the backyard the other day (buying a basket for at home was one of my better purchases of the past few years) and couldn't make a single 25 footer, my 5 year old daughter walks up, full power, heart of the chains. I almost cursed her out.,

Cale seems like such a cool dude. I've bought a couple of his signature M4s, and I currently putt with P Model S that have his signature on the bottom stamp.

I also wanna go get a bag and a few more discs I just have the cheapest driver and putter I could find a couple years ago since I lost all my discs throughout the years from moving all the time and my car getting stolen once lol. Actually it was about two years ago when I moved into my current condo next to the park with the course that I got really into it again

Like any hobby, you can go totally overboard with discs/bags. Disc golf was my primary hobby for about 5 years, so I have tons of equipment. I currently use a top-of-the-line bag that costs $300+ and probably have 100 discs to my name.

Anyway, just wanted to say be very disciplined to not go overboard. It's very easy, especially if you start doing research online.

I'm actually struggling right now with hobbies. It's a conversation bigger than disc golf, but I'm finding myself in a cycle with hobbies where I enjoy it, I research how to improve, I go all in down the rabbit hole, spend lots of money, and I come back up for air wondering if I would've been better off living in blissful ignorance. It's happened with disc golf, coffee/espresso, and I've been going through it recently with speakers/amps/headphones.

It’s crazy how many weird niche hobbies there are like that. Like you can get really into scents and cologne and perfume. Espresso is a good one. My dad got a lathe years ago and was making like wooden pens and little shit like that lol. I go through periods of buying a ton of books and reading maybe two of them (currently reading a book right now that’s not even mine while my own books sit begging to be read). I started listening to my vinyl again but went almost five years just not having a set up at all and over a hundred records just sitting collecting dust and even now it’s not something I do often but I have them on display because it looks nice. I mean kinda same with books and videos games. I buy them because I think I’ll use them and they end up just being something to fill my shelves and make my living room seem homey lol.

I’m kinda the same way with hobbies but it helps that I’m so poor that I literally can’t spend too much on shit I don’t need lol. As I’ve grown older though I feel like I don’t go as crazy on new hobbies as much and stick with tried and true ones (music and disc golf)

@sophos34, you’re from St. Louis right? What are good courses around there? I occasionally find myself in that area

@sophos34, I saw you talk about Harmony Bends in the Foxing thread. That’s one of my favorite courses of all time. One of my favorite weekends ever was when my brother-in-law and I saw a Mannequin Pussy show in KC and then The next day we drove to St. Louis and played Harmony Bends and Eagles Crossing on the way. The next day we went to a Ratboys/Wild Pink show at the Duck Room. Damn. Good times

Hello all! I jump in here simply to say that I live in Central VA and apparently Worlds are being held here (practically in my backyard) this month! I have several friends traveling and staying with me to attend this. While I have not played dg in probably over a year, it will be cool to check out the competition.

Yep!! I live right next to Willmore Park which is a solid 18 hole. The one in the woods I mentioned is Watson, and Schroeder park out in Manchester is a classic 9 I played in high school. Lindendwood University has a great course as well, and over in Illinois I’ve played an 18 hole in Collinsville that I like a lot. I’m sure there’s many others I’ve played I can’t think of right now

Lucky! I went to Worlds last year in Vermont and had a blast. The Pro Tour has never played New London, so I'm curious how it will go. Paul McBeth designed it so his performance during Worlds will be a hot topic over the weekend I'm sure.

Worlds are the best. I'm sure everyone in this thread is familiar with 2021 worlds, but if not, watch the final hole (I set the timestamp to start there) for one of the most incredible moments in sports history. Never gets old to me.
