I think "The Blues, Mary" & "Tin Pan Alley" had been around for a while by that point, and I can understand wanting to do new songs / songs you've written more recently for the album, but I absolutely love both "Georgia" & "Low Love" and I just can't imagine looking at those two and thinking that they don't deserve a spot on the album. I thought I remember reading that those songs were from separate sessions and not the main album sessions with Butch Walker, but I don't have my copy of the Georgia EP anymore to check.

I'm pretty sure the version I have of "The Blues, Mary" is ripped from that vinyl, and it's a great version of the song, but the quality is awful and it's extremely quiet.

also, and I remember this being a thing with people who paid way too much attention to this stuff (like me), but I've never been able to adjust to the album version of "Long Drives" as opposed to the Molly and the Zombies version, which is perfect to me. but I know that's more of a me problem and not a problem with the actual song. I do love the album version of "Smoke" though. that one is awesome.

Yeah I love all of those M&TZ demos & really wish we would have gotten a separate EP of them as they were.

I equally love the versions that ended up on Painkillers though too, haha!

I hadn't listened to any Painkillers era songs in a while, and I went back this morning and tried to give album "Long Drives" a chance to see if time had softened me up a bit, and I still can't do it to this day - sounds artificially slowed down like trying to drive a car with your foot pressed down on the brakes

Because they’ve put out 5 full length albums since they released that song

Long drives is probably my favorite Brian solo track

I can't separate the album from all of the associated other tracks in my mind, so I think Painkillers is my favorite era of his solo albums.

but "Hard Feelings" might be my favorite solo song of his

I would have to think long & hard about this

"Hard Feelings" is an amazing song. I remember being relatively lukewarm on Local Honey at first, in part because the world was in an absolute dumpster at the time, but that song hit me so hard right away. On the "favorite solo song" discussion, it's either that or "Etta James" for me.

Same. Perfect songs. Especially Watson’s Wallflowers vibes.

Watson, Neptune and See You On The Other Side to close the album are crushingly good

think that record doesn’t get enough love overall

It is actually incredible save for 1 song. I love that record to pieces.

gotta be Proof of Life or Her Majestys

I like both - but those are the 2 worst on the album

these aren't in order, but my top 3 would be "Hard Feelings", "Open All Night" & "Watson"

(but "Etta James" & "Low Love" are *right there*)

Sure does. Some days I can convince myself its my favorite gaslight album (and then I remember that 59 sound exists)

That entire album I love...except Etta James...which is extremely unpopular lol.

I don't think I have a clear #1, but I will say that the lack of love for Get Hurt makes me want to say that some version of that album mixing in it's bonus tracks (especially "Have Mercy") would be in the running for their best
