looks like he's gonna host an IG live defending his views on AI.

So much weirdness in all of this:

    1. it’s an AI movie, with scored music? Why not just so the soundtrack through AI as well?
    2. It’s a movie about the Toys R Us mascot? Lol
    3. I get concerns about AI, I also get making a paycheck.
    4. Ultimately, I love Copeland and they’re one of my favorite bands, but they are pretty small and are far from the type of artists with a huge following who can make a big splash in society by either backing or refusing to take part in AI projects. I know individual responsibility and values matter (and welcome any discussion to disagree with me), but I feel like this is such a drop in the bucket thing that I don’t really feel strongly about it one way or the other.

I’ll just ignore it and come back when we get a real album.

This is just so weird and disappointing coming from this dude. One of the last people I'd expect. I wonder what his exact views are to see if they somehow make sense but I don't really wanna watch this thing.

You probably won't get the exact views if you watch bc the exact views are: "They are paying me copious amounts of money"

I had the same thought about Toys-R-Us using a real band for an AI movie, haha. Weird.

Yeah, artists who support AI are really confusing to me. That being said, I don't feel need to criticize Aaron for taking a well-paying job. Not what I would do, but I'm not him and I can't blame him either. And you're right, it's probably not gonna turn the needle one way or another.

Wait, does anyone know if IG Lives are automatically archived? If not then I'll probably have to watch this to try and record it.

now this is a dumb comment the majority of people who pirate music monetarily support artist more than people who don’t

10 minutes until this starts. I don't really want to watch it but I don't want there to potentially be more Copeland lost media should they not archive and post it; I'll be recording.

So far, the conversation has been Aaron interviewing the other dude who's name I don't remember.

    • "Pretty much all of our normal people worked on it" was the response when asked about how other creatives were/weren't utilized in the process. He went on to explain a little bit to explain how the roles shifted/adjusted to dial in the AI response and get insight from the other creatives to instigate the necessary changes.
    • Process began with text to video prompting with the AI platform, got things to about 85%. Utilized a team of about a dozen people to bring it the rest of the way.
    • Most immediate use is to iterate ideas. Can use to create a draft of a trailer, for example, that can be used to pitch ideas. Saves significant time in the creative process for him. Tools will allow people to tell stories at more efficient rates and more cheaply and allow creatives a lot more freedom to explore their ideas and create.

  12. Just call it Glasswing or whatever and I can ignore it, Copeland really doesn't need to drag themselves through this.

Well that was pointless. Well, I guess not pointless. We learned these people literally have no idea whether a tool they use hurts the environment which should be their responsibility to know. Very disappointing. Aaron didn't know what he was talking about I don't even know why he bothered. Garageband is an analog to AI? Assumed by that last post they would be taking questions and they "acknowledged" them but didn't ACTUALLY answer any. I'm so frustrated.

I’ve always been interested in one that combines the 2 versions. Never really return to the other version on its own, and I never really heard the combined versions so I’m curious. OG is, indeed, flawless though so it’s just a curiosity.

Aaron joked about it a couple years ago, but it'd be great to get both separate and combined Dolby Atmos mixes of both versions of the album, perhaps on a Blu-Ray audio disc. don't think that'll happen, but still.

Like I Want You can also show up.

They’ve posted studio updates over the last couple years and Aaron said a while back he has more new Copeland material than ever. I’m confident we’ll get one (fairly) soon.

We’ve already gotten more than I ever expected after YAMS so everything else is just an amazing addition to my library

crazy that their best album came after their initial hiatus and everything since then has been incredible

Agreed; I stacked both versions on top of each other a few years ago but it's a far cry from a professional mix. Would be great to hear how the band wants it to sound.

    The sword and the faith.

Saw the FB story about the IX remaster. Unless he's going to attempt to merge the 2 versions it sounds like it really doesn't need it? Does anyone listen to that album and think 'yeah this could use some work'?

The only thing I'd note for a potential merging of the 2 discs is the alternate version of Like I Want You has these awful 'laser gun' sounds in it that are super off-putting and if they got taken out it'd be great. I don't know a better way to describe them.

I really do love Copeland but between going for an IX remaster plus the AI stuff, I'm getting a weird vibe. Revolving Doors was great but it was superfluous, much like I feel an IX remaster would be. And then I think about how the Vanguard Room had to be sold, and what strikes me is how apparently hard up for cash Aaron is for such a talented guy. Maybe I'm wrong as I don't know his lifestyle/finances, but for a guy that puts out the kind of music he does, it seems criminal that he seems to need a payday so bad?

I'd love new Copeland music, but my worry is because they aren't a big touring type of band beyond some short leg / handful of show stuff, it seems like they don't have a formula where they can make a decent living? The few concerts they do with big orchestras while super cool and super appropriate for their material probably are too few and far between to really bring them much.

There's a point in here somewhere about industry and artistry and compensation but it's one I can't make and has probably been made many times before.

The whole thing with the Ixora + Twin combined mix was that it was meant to be a "quadrophonic" experience, meaning 4 channels playing simulataneously rather than the 2 that you get from a pair of speakers or headphones. This actually prevents it from being combined effectively as a single file.

It's a bit of a task to get it to work, since you need to ensure each disc/album starts at the exact same time through two different pairs of speakers. I've only done it twice because of that. But it's a really amazing and completely unique effect. And in the age of everything on streaming, it's cool that they produced a listening experience that can't be consumed in that way.
