i know it's not, but it'd be hilarious if it's somehow a Contact reference

I just think of the Chevy Vega car lol

It's hilarious the discussion of Vega meanings

Seven is definitely better than the other Matty song, but it just sounds like a different band. Oh well.

"Vega" means "meadow" in Spanish, but I'm not sure that's what they were going for haha

When Stephen sang "Slowly enter the Cities era now" that really hit me

    I hate spoilers. Supporter

I saw on Reddit a while back that Nate said in an interview that they’ve recorded half an albums worth of new songs with Matty and he “wasn’t sure” if Stephen would record any or not.

I think “Vega era” is here to stay.

saw that a while back too. it's not that he wasn't sure about Stephen recording (Stephen has recently said he's been recording more new songs with them), but how the mix of Stephen & Matty songs would balance out. if it was all Matty on the next release, i'd definitely be disappointed, but i'm hopeful it's not.

I don’t wanna exist in a world where both Stephen and Marty record songs for a new record and the whole band agree the Marty ones will stay

from what i remember, it's also a matter of how quickly songs are being written. they have songs with both, but naturally the Matty ones are coming a bit faster?

All this talk about Marty just makes me think of Back to the Future. And it’s fitting with the band trying to get fans hyped on a new singer

On first listen to seven, I’m not sure how much I like the vocal melodies outside the chorus but this one does at least sound like a modern Anberlin song instrumentally. They really leaned into these tones and stylings on the EPs so that helps these songs fit in a bit better. Both songs have solid choruses too but man the vocal styles could not be more jarring even though I think Marty actually did a solid job in isolation. I thought the new MMF song was unlistenable.

I can at least picture Stephen on this song, I actually think it's pretty good after not being into Walk Alone

However this also confirms that I just have no interest in Anberlin music without Stephen

haven't spun this in full yet, but apparently the other 10 tracks from the EPs are remastered.

  17. I'm into Seven. It fits Matty's voice much more and it's also in line with the heavier tracks they've given us since their return.

I tried listening to the Memphis May Fire singles but it's just so formulaic and the way they process his voice is just... ugh, very much not my tastes at all. Glad he's not doing all that with Anberlin.

I'm trying to like Seven. Genuinely. But I don't. And it's heartbreaking. Never in a million years did I think my favorite band would get to the point where they sound nothing like themselves.

quick nitpick about the song: thought we left the "ahem"/coughing adlib in the last decade (at the end of the last post-chorus). it's kinda annoying.

other than that, song is decent. some good elements, but the production rings a tiny bit hollow in places i wasn't expecting (compared to the live version).

We reach for the longest shadow

I listened through 2/3rds of it at the gym on my lunch break, and they sound pretty similar to me. Maybe they flow a little better song to song since they are reordered.

hard to say. just going off of what i heard Nate say somewhere (hence the "apparently").

They fixed your brain when you were young.

They sounded different to me, personally. I was not a fan the overall sound of the EPs, but didn't have any complaints with how the full length sounded. Totally open to it being placebo though :)
