It’s pretty adorable that Silver thinks there will be a 2028 election if Trump wins this year.

I’ve been thinking about this quote I heard on Death is Just Around the Corner a lot lately “Genocide is the attempt to distill murder into rationalism.” Like, we in America will almost certainly never know what this feels like, and this is just about the worst feeling people are capable of having inflicted upon them. But there’s a sense so many people have of this being excusable, or rational. “Of course hundreds/thousands more people lost their lives today, that is just what happens out there” kind of attitudes. I don’t think it is actually dramatic to say that America’s relationship to the world is an indictment against life itself. We should all hope this country (and the regimes it props up) fall. Fourth Reich shit.

The justification I see is something about unfortunate casualties in a war, which again, people here say without having a clue what a war inflicted on them by a super power when you don’t even have an army is like. People here act like they know tragedy because of 9/11 as they are complicit in something exponentially worse in every way

obviously not the same but millions of people died of Covid and God knows how many were permanently disabled and we're like hey remember when everyone baked bread so we're capable of it domestically as well

Yeah I’m not sure if it’s a uniquely American thing or a human thing, but people’s ability to just kind of ignore something horrible happening if it isn’t directly impacting them is…idk. Depressing, to say the least. I wonder if it’s a coping mechanism or what. I mean humans 2000 years ago wouldn’t even know when something horrible was happening a hundred miles away, let alone across the world, at least not until weeks/ months/years later. I wonder where along the line we evolved to just ignore it

See this is why calling people weirdos is already a much better plan than calling them deplorable in 2016 and will work in the long run, they will never be able to figure out how to deflect this without being weird in the process.
