Instead of keeping the character around forever he'll be gone by the end of Secret Wars. And that really pisses me off

 

If literally everything about the announcement were the same except someone besides RDJ as Doom, I'd be significantly less annoyed, lol. It's a pretty baffling choice.

 

I don't know about that. The culmination of Secret Wars was keeping what "worked" from the Ultimate universe (Maker and Miles) and moving them over to 616. Wouldn't be surprised at all for the F4 and Doom to jump into the Sacred Timeline after Secret Wars and for them to be regular players going forward

 

I think it's less baffling if you think about it in the context I posted.

 

I disagree. Whether they go the “Victor is a Tony variant” approach or the “he’s an unrelated character who’s always masked who happens to be played by a franchise-defining actor from another role” (that one seems less likely to me), it’s a ridiculous idea that feels like parody to me.

The only part that makes sense about it is that it’s exactly what they’d do if they were desperate, which… yeah.

 

It was a nice little window of time where I got to pretend RDJ was gonna really act again

 

Well, the fanbase seems cleanly divided on the subject of this casting, so

 

what is baffling about a movie series that has been floundering since losing its best actor, that doesn’t have to explain anything away since it already has numerous universes established, bringing back that actor for one of the biggest remaining roles? it is a pretty easy thing to consider if you spend more than half a second thinking about it

 

i’m to believe we can have actors like tobey maguire, andrew garfield and tom holland play different versions of characters with the same name but we can’t have one actor play two characters with different names okey doke lol

 

so just to clarify, it’s okay to be mean to people about movies but not about bands

 

Anyways, I’m intrigued. Could be fun. Movie could suck, or it could be a good shot in the arm for the franchise that’s been struggling lately. We’ll see!

 

Ok. My bad. Shouldn’t have called the choice “baffling.” Marvel Studios being desperate and having no imagination should’ve been obvious to me. I underestimated them.

lol thank you. i don’t think tim and i even disagree about the mcu that much. the movies before endgame mostly sucked and the ones since have been worse. just seems pretty plain this is an easy way for them to get people back in after being lost in the wilderness for nearly a decade by the time this movie drops

 

also all the disappointment about downey not sticking with “real acting” again … he made one movie lol. a desperate ploy to win an award for a movie that was basically a superhero movie. and then went right back to get a paycheck. why are people talking about him like he’s ethan hawke or something lol, dude likes being richer than god

What if it’s just like some personal challenge for RDJ and he’s like you know what I’m gonna kill this and show I’m more than just Tony Stark and do it in the same universe that gave me Tony Stsrk? If he were to pull that off he’d be getting a ton of praise.

Or he just wants money and hey who am I to judge on that because I’d probably do a lot worse for a shit ton of money

 

Yeah hes definitely not looking at this as an opportunity to challenge himself creatively lol

this is fun for him and comes with a whopping paycheck. thats all lol
