I think with rugby at least, is that they are also using the same stadium for the athletics, so need to get the other stadium sports out of the way in time, so they then have enough time to transform the field (remove all the green stuff) to make it suitable for athletics

It's seriously the best; the tackling intensity of American football, with the continuity of play of soccer/futbol. Sooo much strategy involved too (whereas Sevens is a bit more random/scattered).
