Just watched BRATS the docu on hulu..... these type of nostalgia docus are typically pretty solid. They accomplish what they're trying to accomplish. Show a lot of great archived clips of the past, revisit some famous people you haven't seen in a while, learn a few new things, and then you go to bed.

This wasn't great. Andrew McCarthy tried too hard to force a theme into this reunion documentary. Most of the people he interviewed have moved on and look back fondly, and like lol demi Moore and Rob lowe obviously are doing fine. Ally Sheedy didn't really provide too much. And im sorry, you couldn't get Molly Ringwald or Judd Nelson....thats a problem.

If you wanted this to be about a group of actors that got pigeonholed and therefore careers preemptively shortened, you need Molly and Judd. And they didnt even mention Anthony Michael Hall.

Andrew needed to realize this was more for his own therapeutic release and by doing so needed to be more honest....ie, how does he feel that Molly and judd snubbed him. How does he feel that Emilio, demi moore and rob lowes careers did just fine.

As far as these nostalgic docu go...this was a waste of time

I am interested in Brats but heard it was mostly just an andrew mccarthy whinefest than anything else lol

I turned it off after 10 or 15 minutes or so. If every man made a documentary instead of going to therapy we’d be in trouble

Men would make an entire documentary before going to therapy

I actually think if this became an honest true reflection of his own personal anxieties and tribulations it may have actually been interesting.

But it was 90 minutes of people not agreeing with his angle or ignoring him completely lol

NO MOLLY RINGWALD OR JUDD NELSON!? Your docu is dead my friend.

Jonah Hill went to therapy and made a documentary about it, the worst of all choices

Worst of all just complete Anthony Michael Hall erasure. At least the others got mentioned, it's almost like AMH didn't exist at all in this doc.

I enjoyed his therapy more than Andrew’s and I like Andrew infinitely more. He seems pretty fucked though lol

It’s a bit of a whiplash tho when imo one of the best if not the best scene of the season happens immediately before

In a show full of perfect performances his was probably my favorite. Just his delivery, I LOVED the unintentional snark he brought haha.

Oh I absolutely loved it he was just so fucking weird. But I think it was supposed to be a look at how sleazy DA’s act in their day to day work. that pompous demeanor. even when he’s like, asking Tommy “are you okay” or “this isn’t about rusty/revenge” etc etc you can tell he’s really saying “what the fuck is wrong with you” “do your job correctly” etc. it’s just unsettling and I love it

In terms of performances in the show I think these were my top in order:

    Ruth Negga
    Jake Gylenhaal
    Peter Sarsgaard
    OT ***benle

top three deserve Emmy’s imo no doubt about it especially Ruth Negga but jakey g and sarsgaard both just….jeez man. I simultaneously hated rusty and rooted for him especially in his closing statements which I LOVE they showed you him rehearsing so when you see it happening you know he’s up there putting on a show and nothing more so you’ve got this interesting thing happening of an actor acting out a scene where the character is acting and you’re fully aware and still fully buy into what he’s saying and doing because his performance is that good. honestly? same for sarsgaard’s closing statement. we know he’s a narcissist we know he felt slighted by Carolyn hating him and loving rusty and I know deep down he’s well aware rusty didn’t actually kill her but probably knows he had something to do with it. at the end when we see him just watching football with his cat it’s supposed to signal to us he took guardia’s advice to move on but there’s just a look in his eye that makes me think he really hasn’t. I know others are quite down on how it all shook out but the reveal scenes being so weak doesn’t mean all the other stuff wasn’t extremely well done especially on the actors part

Edit: really with that censorship on OT’s last name? the three letter f word shows up inside of another word and gets censored? we for real here?

idk i took the end for sarsgaard’s character a bit differently. it seemed more introspective, that he really fully believed with his whole chest that rusty did it and to have the jury disagree with him, he feels he either did carolyn a disservice by being so egotistical or that he can’t trust his own instincts and doesn’t know what’s wrong or right anymore

they mentioned it on the ringer’s prestige tv pod but i hope next season is on delay and tommy trying another case and not picking up with the sabiches

So how does this work if you already have the Disney/Hulu/Espn bundle? And would my profile from max migrate over?

I dunno. As far as sarsgaard’s character, I felt at first he was dead set on thinking he was guilty and his ego made him believe he could convict, then the closing arguments happened and after rusty's performance he knew he was beat. Maybe even for a second he believed him too, because the beginning of HIS closing arguments I felt he was super blah, super robotic l, almost defeated sounding, but as he got going I could feel his conviction return. Rusty wasn't wrong, he always had it out for him. Whether or not he thought he was guilty was unimportant at times he just wanted to GET HIM. That coupled with what he felt was strong enough evidence boosted his ego.

  23. It was a fine show overall but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to my friends
