We got an Airbnb at the beach for the weekend for Sarah’s birthday and it turns out four families with a shit ton of kids are in all of the other units. Their stuff is all over the pool area and the even left a bag of trash hanging on this tiki table area, and this is all supposed to be a shared space. So Sarah tied it up the trash and left at one of their doors after they all left for dinner lol

Options. Pandemic panic because the restaurant industry shut down, also pandemic boredom. Convenience as well, prob wouldn’t have went back to UMD if I didn’t find a room to rent from a friend’s rental house in College Park MD when I needed to move anywhere that was cheap.

Im applying to tech related things this summer but if I can make six figures in the food industry that DOES provide me a LOT more flexibility than an office job in terms of touring, and promoting the band during the week

The sommeliers that actually pull big money spend years in training and it's rather extensive.

 

I feel like people are missing the point that sommeliers can still work the floor at some restaurants (including my job) and make literally two incomes in one 32-36 hour workweek

Even if a restaurant only pays a sommelier $35k-$40k, I make between $45k and $60k before tax in tips (at this level of dining) before we even talk about the pay I’d earn for curating the wine list and getting it sold. I already am pretty good at describing, pairing and selling wine, it’s definitely one of those things where my years in fine dining counts toward that “years of training” you’re talking about.

I already know what to taste for, what environmental factors lead to which flavors, and how wine pairing versus solo wine drinking is a different thing in terms of what flavors you go for. Most of what I need to know is just more exposure to different terroirs and different heritages / traditions, in terms of how that famous family of vinos, or how that very niche region in France, does wine differently than everybody else.

All I can say is, as someone else with autism brain, do not underestimate how much information my autism brain can soak up when I take an interest in something lol. It doesn’t just apply to music. I might be a pothead musician who still acts 25 at age 34 but you see my professionalism and expertise come out real quick when I start describing food and wine.

(It’s bittersweet as fuck cause I’d be great at coding because of this ability - but the other side of autism is, you literally can’t make yourself do something you’re diametrically opposed to. And the direction AI / tech monopolies are heading is making it hard to figure out where in tech I’d actually wanna work)

I am very glad that All Things Go is going to be in a closed stadium so we won’t have to fight anything like that to see her lmao. You could either by GA stadium or GA floor, we had to get floor but I’m sure if we get their early enough in the day we’ll have a good spot.
