Daisy Edgar-Jones’s accent is out of control in this. At times, I could not tell if she was going for sounding like an Oklahoman or just giving up and using her native accent.

yeah i mean that’s pretty common, not all that surprising

For sure! It was slightly distracting during the first half. But I’m not going to see “Twisters” for good accents.

This describes my feelings on both movies so well.

that's why I have never created a Letterboxd account and I think the whole thing is kinda stupid (no offense for those that use it). it's rotten tomatoes for the people who complain about rotten tomatoes

I just use it as a way to document various lists. I started making a yearly movie list and will add as I see things and rank them as I go. I also made lists for the movies I own. I have a digital list, Blu-ray, 4K, DVD, and I think I haven’t gotten around to making one for my VHS yet.

It’s been super helpful for stuff like Prime day or Black Fridays when I see stuff on sale and can’t recall if I bought it yet. I often wait to buy stuff on sales like that, so it’s physical release usually isn’t a vivid memory for me unless I buy it right away.

I have rated some movies, but the vast majority I have not.

I have this conversation with my wife all the time about the objectively subjective rating - it's like what is the movie trying to achieve and how well does it achieve that, meeting the movie on the director's/filmmaker's level

Not that serious. Did you absolutely love it? 5. Did you think it was great? 4. Did you think it was decent? 3. Bad? 2. Awful? 1.

Yep, that's the way Ebert always graded movies, which I tend to agree with.

I mainly use it just to keep track of what I've watched (which is a lot), and for recommending films when people ask for ideas

I like to see the general vibe of movies from people I trust. Less so for people that give a movie something like two stars and write "Mr. Belvedere sat on his balls" for the review.

Missed opportunity by this film to have a popcorn bucket shaped like a cow.

There’s someone I follow on Letterboxd who, without fail, if they hate something I end up loving it and vice versa.

This absolutely ruled. Powell is such a star. Perfect summer movie.

Yea, this was a great time.

Pretty cool the post credits scene had a tornado looking over its shoulder at the camera the same way Thanos did in Avengers. He’s coming for revenge for what happened in this movie. Shit is wild.

Just got out of this as well. Total blast. Had a great time and I’m so pleased. Having been through a tornado with my own family, the rodeo scene was effective and terrifying. Reminded me of exactly how I felt watching the first one with my parents in the theater when I was a kid. They actually pulled it off.

    Twisters!

yeah he kept calling her city girl and it’s cause she didn’t have an accent half the time so he was confused.

My biggest problem: Let Daisy and Glen kiss! WTF?
Also (not a problem), Paul Scheer!

I liked that the romance wasn’t the main focus but I agree with your point.

That also reminds me of when I saw Toy Story 4 in theaters and the like 13 year old boy next to me kept saying “kiss her woody, kiss her!!!” Anytime woody and bo beep were on screen together.

Spoilers, but here are a few nods to weather events or the original Twister that I think you guys will find pretty cool:

The scene where Daisy Edgar-Jones is at the motel and somebody says "Glad to have you back" and she replies with "I'm not back" is a direct callback to Bill Paxtons line in the original Twister

One of the characters references "the suck zone" while in the car - this is a classic line from the original Twister where Phillip Seymour Hoffman is talking to Jami Gertz

Dorothy IV makes an appearance pretty blatantly in the movie

Daisy Edgar-Jones playing with the dandelion in the wind is a direct callback to Bill Paxton's famous scene using grass and watching a developing storm outside of a gas station before a chase

There are references to several key weather phenomena that have been studied and understood since the original film. This includes low level cape (instability in the lower atmosphere), capping (a warm layer of air that prevents storm development), SPC (the storm prediction center), and cold pools (regions of expanding cold air that can make it difficult for supercells to survive)

The movie theatre tornado scene is a direct nod to a photo taken after the 2021 Mayfield, KY violent EF4 tornado.
