Okay I'm done with my rabbit hole of old Katy Perry songs but when I was looking for the old bonus tracks on the album I stumbled upon this playlist and I'm deceased

I scrolled in hopes that “Better Than Revenge” was on there, and was not disappointed.

Someone I follow online once called the original “(Slut Shame Version)” (after talking about how disappointed they were with the TV rewrite), and that’s lived in my head ever since.

 

Jennifer Knapp (a big CCM artist in the late 90s/early 00s who abandoned that industry and later came out as a lesbian) wrote an autobiography. And in it, she talks about getting wasted once while on tour and in a bad place emotionally, and in the process making the young artist on tour with her very uncomfortable. An artist named Katy Hudson.

That whole Christian music industry thing makes me so uncomfortable, lol, as much as I still love my childhood favs like dc Talk, Audio Adrenaline, & Jars of Clay. (And occasional modern artists like Lauren Daigle.) It's like everything off putting about the music industry, and about mega church culture, at the same time.

 

It's why I have an undeserved soft spot for Katy. By all accounts she is rich and famous and old enough to get educated and be less ignorant of the world and has no excuse now. But knowing she was raised without a legit education by super religious parents makes me so sad for her. Obv doesn't excuse her working with Dr. Luke and other sucky things she's done and said. But makes me so sad how we're still failing kids like this today.
