Even at my restaurant I find ways to recuse myself lol. Every other bathroom break is spent doing instagram stuff for my band lmfao

But I’m also very pro at serving tables to the point I know exactly when I can step off the floor and for how long before a customer needs something from me. My sense of that is impeccable I straight up never have customers think I’m not being attentive haha.

 

when i worked in a restaurant as a busser for my first job, all the servers were constantly stepping out for smoke and cocaine breaks. like super frequent that it fell on me and other bussers to make sure tables were happy. lol

 

Yeah I make damn sure it’s not gonna be a problem and the table just wants to socialize and take their time with their entrees, or at least I’ll make sure the table is good on drinks and their next course isn’t coming for several minutes

if it’s busy I usually don’t step off the floor at all though, on a busy day sometimes I’ll have tasks carry me straight from 6 pm to 9:30 pm with no lull. But my ADHD / autism brain cannot just stand there when I’m only serving 2-3 tables lol, that is extremely easy for me at this point of my career so I find ways to occupy myself, while still making sure they never feel like they had to look for me to ask for something

 

I can’t handle jobs with Nazi ass managers who make sure you’re just standing still the whole time your tables don’t need anything. Or “if you got time to lean you got time to clean” fuck you, pay me $20 an hour and then I’ll work like that, I’m not scrubbing shit for $3 an hour. It’s actually kinda funny because that’s usually shitty restaurants that are like that. Upscale restaurants tend to have a much more skilled staff that they trust more so they are way less hawk-ish about us checking our phones when it’s not busy. As long as my tables never complain and I show up to the line a couple times an hour to run food, my boss is happy and leaves me alone lol
