I thought this response in the Entertainment thread was a great point. I never really thought of it that way.

 

Yeah, I remember early on that clip of the phone call about “that’s not my daughter” and I’ve had that in my head for basically 7 months or whatever. It was certainly a bit of a letdown when I heard the full call in context and learned the daughter was not the problem lol

 

Idk how people take these scores seriously

 

”Praise Jesus” would be a scarier thing for Longlegs to say! He should listen to himself!

Right? The daughters in all these families turning evil and being creepy has so much potential. It’s a more effective emotional beat, it’s more drawn out, more sinister. As written the daughter just kind of sat there with a weird doll, the doll could even kill her and take her place. This would be an entirely different movie but it’d be so much scarier than what we got.

 

My friends and wife overhyped Longlegs so they left the movie disappointed. I purposefully avoided any information about the movie, including reviews and trailers, and I thought the movie was great.

so I guess go into it as blind as possible. Ha

 

Also I was thinking… Nicholas Cage is going to have the most insane backlog of movies for future generations to discover and explore haha.

 

That first Osgood Perkins quote is bad and the second one is good, so who knows how is is irl lol

 

I’ve listened to interviews with him on a couple podcasts the past couple weeks or so, and I’ve oscillated between finding him insightful at times and also a bit of a knob.

 

He and John Carpenter would get along.

 

I really dug it. I could tell the monsters were influenced by shoebill storks which are absolutely terrifying animals so that part hit for me.

Not to harp on this but yeah, he’s not even watching Peele?

 

Waxwork is a silly fucking movie.

 

I have absolutely no interest in any Ti West movies either so I can understand that much

 

That’s cool and I get it, just wild to exclude all “contemporary things”

 

Candy why tho?!

 

Not even referencing the X trilogy, The House of the Devil is an all timer

 

I’ve seen a few of his films and they left me cold

He’s probably watched Peele. I’m pretty sure they’re friends and help each other out. Maybe he doesn’t watch the actual movie, but he probably gives input to Peele and vice versa in some way.

 

I was hoping for a little more “police procedural” from Longlegs, but other than that, it was creepy and engaging. Definitely will be a top 3 horror movie of 2024.

Also, I couldn’t stop seeing John Rzeznik’s face in Cage’s prosthetics. Sorry, Johnny.

 

Whatever gets people to see these films and more of them made. But it also may be hurting their reception with lofty expectations. Tough call.
