It’s Fox News the album if I wanted to listen to a white guy angrily shout about gen z and cancel culture I’d turn on Hannity

 

Everyone in Michigan worships him. Even to people that don’t like rap music, he’s like the Detroit Lions here and a state icon. It’s bizarre and I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.

 

I think it extends to the rest of the Midwest too but funny enough the two people I saw excited about it are from jobs I had in Philly lmao

"fox news: the album" is actually the perfect description up until it gets "recontextualized" by guilty conscience 2, then you're like wait what (uh, spoiler)

 

dude, you definitely don't have to play the rest but it looks the worst is very much over if you got to, say, road rage. rest of the album is way, way better than this exhausting shit

that said, absolutely don't blame anyone for jumping ship before things comparatively improve. em's dumb ass brought that on himself

 

just realized: i probably didn't catch any truly dreadful dad puns on this due to how taken aback i was by how damn near reprehensible the front half of this is

I swear it's like clockwork the people that don't listen to hip hop that come out of hibernation for an Eminem release lol

Edit: This is in reference to the people who do nothing but praise every Eminem release that comes out btw, realized with my timing of post it might come off differently than I meant lol

 

See, how is that not a silly statement? Some of us listen to mostly hip hop and can look at any release objectively. I don't see anyone praising every Eminem album (I really disliked MMLP2 And Revival especially), but as cringy and tired as some of his references and lines are, it's just as tired to see the same arguments against each of his new albums. I feel like a lot of people are predisposed to just not like his current output and that's totally fine.



This album is far from perfect but there are plenty of good songs on it, a few great features, and honestly a lot of Eminem fan service which is just overall fun. I'm not talking about reviews and opinions, we're all entitled to those. But, I think it's silly to assume people don't listen to hip hop just because they aren't shitting on the newest Eminem album

I listened to Guilty Conscience 2 after that and lol this is some corny bullshit, if that's one of the better songs on this album then no thanks

 

Will have to try this again, or at least the back half. Think I listened to the first half, maybe not even that far before turning it off as it wasn’t really grabbing me or holding my attention but I was listening while working so maybe a big part of that was me. Although honestly I can’t even really remember any good beats or music. Don’t know how to explain this but when I think back to the album all I hear is his voice just endlessly rapping (duh I’m sure) but mostly in the same pitch/tone for the entire thing. Again, maybe that was me not focusing enough and being distracted but really kind of felt lifeless and dragged until when we I hit stop.

 

Guilty Conscience 2 as a title is a strange choice. It's not a sequel to the '99 song and it doesn't even play out the same way with a Dre feat. etc.

God you weren't kidding, it's 2 in the morning and I decided fuck it I need to know, just finished through Road Rage. We're up to what, 5 Caitlyn Jenner references and at least 4 PC references? Literally obsessed lmao

I'm gonna finish it because it's late enough at night I'm loopy enough.

 

Well the last like, 5 songs ARE better than everything that came before, I'll give him that. I guess he's capable of like, an EP's worth talking about his family.

Or maybe, and hear me out for a second here, his current output is absolutely fucking atrocious and disgusting and spends a weird amount of time complaining about one of the most marginalized groups of people in society. listening to a guy in his 50s go on about pronouns and trans people while states are currently outlawing access to medical care for trans youth and rates of suicide and murder against them continues to skyrocket is going to elicit the reactions you’re seeing and for good reason. if you’re able to listen to this album and be like “aw shucks guys he’s doing his best there’s some decent songs” when he’s contributing to the hateful rhetoric that results in countless deaths of people just trying to exist well then that’s on you pal

 

and like I’m not trying to be over sensitive but at a certain point it’s like what the fuck are you even defending when you say the album is alright? the 8 or so tracks I made it through was one of the most unenjoyable listening experiences I’ve ever had. and it’s even more frustrating when there’s something beneath the surface here to be said about marshal grappling with his slim shady persona but instead he indulges his worst impulses and comes across as an out of touch clown

 

apart from the lyrical issues (which are all totally valid) I just hate the actual sound of his rapping so much now - going back a while but it's gotten worse

 

First of all, I'm not defending anybody or anything. I'm saying it's not his best album but not his worst. You can say what you want about intent, purpose, concept, etc. but it's clear that his lyrics on this are nothing more than an obvious nod to his past controversies tucked into a character dialogue in a loose concept. Nothing from his perspective is hateful and the lines that are obviously in bad taste are still being used to reckon with how stupid he knows it is. One of his kids is non-binary so I don't think those things are lost on him but how is the theme here any different than a film or episode of south park with the same types of Characters.

At the end of the day, how many modern rappers are still saying things from a truly hateful or ignorant place but it gets shrugged off because they aren't as mainstream (or it's not a part of their 'character development'). The latest ghostface e album has several instances of things like that, which sucks because he's always been on my top list but it sucks that he's still so far behind.
At least Em is on record multiple times talking about how silly and immature his lyrics have been. Even if you don't like the record, concept, structure, etc or think it's lazy, the conversation is still there. You can argue that he can get the point across without those lines (and he could) but you can say the same about any art that addresses those things

 

South Park also sucks tbf especially nowadays

Anyway, I seem to have a better sense of humor about this stuff than my cis male friends which is ironic, but at the end of the day I feel good about my ability to discern the hate from the humor
