I like a lot of what I’ve heard from them, don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album though. Excited to check it out

Nice. I like some Weakerthans songs. I’ve probably heard this in full years ago but could use a refresher

Also, my thought is that the whole point of this thread is to contribute at least a reaction. If some folks are just waiting for their turn without even posting a sentence-long impression, or to praise an album that they’re already familiar with, then I don’t really think that’s playing fair.

  8. Weakerthans! I know of this band because of my The Wonder Years phase. I think I've only heard Left and Leaving and only once, "through an old car stereo" and all that. Probly 12 years ago lol. Didn't return to it but I have the band filed in my head as great songwriters based on that listen. Expecting to be impressed by the songwriting again, not sure how I'll feel overall.

I mean absolutely, I'm not sure why I'm the choice for this though lol! We can definitely at least prevent overlap. And I think I do already have a pick/am on the list

just feel like you might’ve heard the albums I’m choosing between and can maybe help pick the right one

and I’ve got my next choice

    that was easy lol

  12. I had heard “Aside” because my high school girlfriend put it on a mix CD (along with Rilo Kiley and a bunch of other stuff I would grow to love later), but I also was really spurred to check out that album because of the line on The Upsides.

  13. Sure, I guess I just don't think it's that deep. I don't think there are a lot of people claiming there picks that aren't at least semi-active in here

The concept doesn’t seem all that deep to me. The rules are laid out in the original posts on the first page.

Some of my favorite picks have come from inactive members and I don't want to scare them off, if all they do is dip in for a killer pick every few months that's fine with me

If I have a bland or negative reaction to a pick I generally won't post it

I will say skipping George was a bad move

  17. when we did something similar on AP I made George listen to Europe '72 so I get it

That all seems fair enough. Don’t want to oppress anyone lolz. I don’t think/ I hope I’m not being too much of a stickler by asking folks to try to be active for others’ picks. There is always room for leniency of course.

Elegy from Gump Worsley sounds more like a Slint song than even Slint did at times :crylaugh:

One of the all time great bands imo. John K Samsons writing is simply unmatched.

Yeah, the lyrics on this are beautiful.

my first listen was great but seems like the kind of thing that expands upon each listen. Need to return to this for a deeper reaction.
