If I’m playing fantasy I’d just rather cape for someone who is at least progressive on economics and social issues and won’t support Israel’s genocide. It’s not like anything we do will impact what Biden and the DNC do anyway. Most pre-debate Biden backlash came from the genocide support and I keep seeing names thrown around that would just maintain his status quo.
Someone who I soured on but at least had been critical of Israel’s war and has a history of being progressive is Elizabeth Warren. I don’t know why folks would prefer Whitmer over her, except to politically secure Michigan but that’s not worth throwing values and lives under the bus imo, particularly when Trump is so beatable.

And Warren wouldn’t be my #1 pick but I don’t see why she isn’t mainstream enough and electable, and at least we know she fights for some good things. Kamala isn’t going to do shit to fight for things, the Supreme Court will steam roll her admin and she’ll walk the party line on Israel. Why not push for someone who can talk good policy

    Warren's 75. Sanders is 81. That's not happening.

It's Kamala or Newsom I really believe. I think it'd be Kamala with a midwestern/PA white male VP. The best thing is if Newsom just jumps in and keeps Kamala but that's a bit awkward. I just hope they can decide things swiftly and have someone at the top of the ticket that can articulate that platform clearly. I don't like what I've seen of Kamala's speaking skills but like, she's a prosecutor right? She has to be able to be sharp? I don't know.

Independent of the vileness of Trump, the Republican platform is grossly unpopular and unwinnable against a competent communicator in the swing states.

I do think it's gonna be really hard to move to anyone but Harris

Which is bad. Harris is not a great speaker and I don't see her pulling in fresh "actually they sounded pretty good there maybe I'll consider them" support like Whitmer or Prtizker or even Mayo Pete could

But she's the VP. You can't just ditch her (and especially can't replace her with white person)

Just go with Harris + Whitmer

Sounds messed up but two women on the ticket should be a definite no. Trying to win this election here.

There’s probably no chance I’d vote for any Dem that could be brought forth because it would have to represent a seismic shift from what the party currently is. Therefore, I’m not talking about this in terms of who I’d like to see. So, strategically speaking, probably any Dem who can form sentences and doesn’t need to be asleep by 8pm and isn’t a Clinton could win against Trump. The Dems problem is that Trump is very weak, but as long as the candidate is Biden the focus is going to be more on “dude is this guy shitting his pants right now?” and not all the negative things about Trump they want to campaign on.

If they just go with Harris and an inoffensive VP that’d probably be good and normal enough to win against Trump. If they really felt like courting the Midwest, do Harris and Shawn Fain or something.

Anyone too sexist to vote for two women is also too sexist to not vote for a woman president

ehh you’d probably be surprised how many boomer and silent Gen men out there are probably like “one woman is enough, they need a man in there too!”

What I was trying to say. It's hard to debate politics in trying to say that when I argue, I'm not reflecting my personal opinion. Hell at this point let's have all women congress/executive/judicial and give that a shot. I'm all for it. However, we're arguing about getting the vote of the uninformed/both sides/moderates whose views are all over the place. Often times their views suck, but catering to win leads to better outcomes than standing on principles to lose. Especially when Donald Trump is on the ballot.

Maybe you can try to get the vote of young people who are disgusted with the leadership of the party right now? Just talking in terms of policy not the identity of who’s on the ticket. I’m really not interested in catering to “both sides” on policy and if that’s the direction the dems continue on republicans will get their way no matter who wins the election (which is what’s going to happen because no discussion in this thread or anywhere outside the dnc even matters)

beyond being old, I think people just dislike her too much. i have minimal doubt that if she had won the nomination and election 4 years ago, she would have been far and away the best president of our lives and likely an easy reelection candidate, but that's unfortunately not going to help now.

I think these two senile old men have tainted everything but personally I still would rather take someone in their 70s with good policy over a centrist. We are so fucked on climate with centrist policies, we’re in the middle of enabling genocide, and the Supreme Court is legislating right wing law. A centrist does nothing about these things and makes at least two of the 3 worse. The “old“ label is probably something that is going to stick hard going forward though because of these two

Young people don't vote in the same proportion as older people. I won't believe anything else until I see it, and I'd love to be wrong. I also think young people are more conservative/apolitical than we think they are. Again, I want to be wrong.

I think the idea of Biden stepping aside is so close to pure fantasy as it is that considering any options other than Harris is just a waste of time. It’s going to be Biden or Harris. We should focus on that. Sucks to say because Harris obviously sucks but it’s reality.
