ive written tens of thousands of words on this website about how much i love this band more than life itself im allowed to feel meh on one of their songs!

 

But not that one. You get that, right

 

i also am not big on hear you me i appreciate the sentiment of the song but it just isnt really a song i go back to despite being by a band i constantly go back to

i usually skip it when it comes on, it's a sad song for sure, it's in the film out cold during a nice scene.

I didn’t really like Hear You Me until I saw it live and people around me were crying and then it started to make more sense.

 

if my memory serves correctly, it's about kids who got killed in a car crash on their way to a jimmy concert

 

Haha oh yes I know what it’s about, but when I was young I skipped the slow songs on ALL albums and seeing the band live really got me to go back and reconsider it.

It’s your website actually that got me to become an album listener and I basically got to fall in love with a ton of albums over again when I learned to listen to every song. So thank you!

It’s about two fans named Mykel and Carli. Weezer have a song about them as well.

 

“Hear You Me” is an incredible song, but it’s hard to cover. The vibe of that song on record is pretty unique, as far as “sad acoustic strummers” go, and most covers I’ve heard of it feel like they’re missing something.

 

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Mykel and Carli weren’t kids but were fully-grown adults who were fans of JEW and helped support them back in the day (hence “You gave us some place to go”), but unfortunately died in a car crash on the way to a show

 

Hear You Me is primarily about the emotion and lyrical content, its power is derived from the message - Jimmy have better ballads in their discography but fuck me that song is elevated in a live context.

Hear You Me is a beautiful and great song. However, I like way more of their other songs and would prefer it not be a live staple. But I have nothing negative to say about the song.

 

Taking a mental health break from work this morning and currently listening to Static on vinyl. I first bought the CD in high school and liked but didn’t love it. Now, somehow this morning, it’s hitting like never before. Almost reducing me to tears at times. I’m never not amused by how some art just kind of sits patiently waiting until you’re fully ready — in my case, 24 years later.

 

Hear You Me is wonderful live.

 

I’ve done a 180 on the song since hearing about the background. Although part of me feels like I already knew that but my memory is a fickle thing after a decade of drug abuse
