This is the second trailer and the guy calling this the closest we'll get to Nichijou Season 3 is so on point.

We would need a second season of Nichijou before that, but yeah that’s the immediate vibe I got from that last trailer. Excited for it

I'm sure it's been posted in here a lot as it's a classic, well known etc but I just started Monster and holy cow, it's amazing. I am on chapter 16 and it's been a wild ride so far. Fantastic dialogue / plotting / pacing, great use of historical events / political intrigue, and just a suspenseful addictive time so far. I've heard issues with the pacing, but I like how everything has come together and the 'side' stories so far, the newer characters are all meshing great and nothing has seemed filler or out of order.

My only hesitation is 74 episodes?? Not the time commitment (that's like 2 seasons of modern TV in runtime), but I like the grit & realism and I'm not sure / don't see yet how the story has legs for that long without going a little wild / off the rails. Waiting to be pleasantly surprised though - I've had plenty of time lately and am burning through 3 a day and I don't see stopping anytime soon. Easily something i can see binging through straight to the end.

These aren't all technically anime (all animated but a lot of American stuff) but so far I have enjoyed the below (in part - haven't finished everything):

Cyberpunk Edge Runners / Pluto / Monster / Supercrooks / Castlevania (struggling with nocturne - far less engaging characters & plot) / Neon Genesis (probably going to start over after Monster, didn't get too far) / Blue Eye Samurai / Scavengers Reign / Invincible

I am thinking of the below for the next batch / foray into the genre: Any thoughts based on what I've liked so far?

Steins Gate / Full Metal Alchemist / Attach on Titan / Baccano

Baccano is pretty great, but if you're in it for realism, be warned, things get pretty wild.

It sounds like that's not a requirement based on your list though.

I'll also say it bounces around different time periods pretty regularly, and I had to consult a Wiki just to get my head around the timeframe of certain events.

Thanks. No, I just don't like things (any kind of format) that changes too much and becomes tonally jarring. If you spend a ton of time being realistic, and then start to abandon that without much explanation or intention, it can lose me. I just like that the 'rules' of the world (no matter how fantastic or wild) be adhered to you. The ole 'doesn't have to be our own logic, but adhere to the logic you've created'.

    Welcome to the thread!
Out of the four you listed, I highly recommend Attack on Titan. I binged it all up to season four during covid, then again with my wife, then watched the rest as it aired. To me, it’s a masterpiece.
I’m glad you’re enjoying Monster. I didn’t watch it, but I read the manga. The artist/writer is one of my favorites. He also did Pluto that you watched. I know you didn’t say anything about manga, but my other recommendation is another manga he wrote called 20th Century Boys (there isn’t an anime of it). It’s another masterpiece and there are 11 “perfect editions” that collect two volumes in one.

So that My Deer Friend Nokotan show apparently has an AI translated script. And to double down on how stupid that is, the dub apparently uses the same script causing unnatural line deliveries.

Saw a thread breaking this down and apparently it's just bad/very rushed translation, the script doesn't contain any of the hallmarks of machine/AI translation

    Link for those interested

I’d rather there be a shitty translation made by actual people than for it to be a shitty translation that they just used AI for. It’s not ideal either way obviously, but it’s way more of a bummer to see AI used for this stuff.

Just watched the episode. Its comedy is so goofy and “omg so random” that it would be hard to tell if it was AI or not.

Aye, I'd rather see a person employed and do a bad job than a machine do a bad job.
