Sure. But you just have to show them how much better the end result is because of it. With people like TSSF I would be like “I need another take” and then get pushback and shit like “I already did a bunch don’t you have them all and can’t you just edit it together?”

…you are right. You are free to go. I’ll stay behind and edit this… and then I replay everything. That happened more often on each record. Even down to me punching in and singing harmonies on Proper Dose.

From what I know, he regrets making a post that implied things were amicable.

Absolutely true. Also an ADTR tour would have been much more beneficial in 2018 then 2024 which is quite funny. ADTR has fallen off a bit since signing to FBR.

Also I’m pretty sure Neck Deep did that tour. Again all opportunities they passed on went to Neck Deep. Arguably a band with worse music but exponentially more succesfull.

This all makes Parker sound like a massive douche

  7. What was it you identified in them that made you think they could get that big/how early did you ID it? For me it was always that those hooks were some of the best in the genre and it sounded like whoever wrote those could've been writing pop hooks if they wanted to. Again this is 90% based on US&D on my end

We reach for the longest shadow

That sounds childish from Parker for sure, but some of this mentality would get praised in other threads for a band staying true to their roots, and not “selling out” if they made similar comments.

Sam probably knows otherwise, but maybe at one point they didn’t want to be in a “huge” band? Maybe they were comfortable? I won’t fault them, though if that’s the case they seem somewhat unsure of that posture.

If that was true then Parker wouldn’t say things like “We are still the kings” and then ask me things like “Do you think State Champ’s record will do better than ours?”. That implies a conscious consideration of status.

Sure it’s easier to be big fish in the little pond. But conversations like “we only want to be this successful” never happened.

I knew they were good. But when I saw them getting a stronger response than NFG at warped tour then I knew we were on the cusp of being one of the most valuable pop punk bands inside of the ressurgance.

The reality is every decision is based on how much money they can make. And they want more. So these two ideas can’t operate simultaneously.

Yeah, it just sounds like an inconsistent vision for what they (Parker it seems) want from the band. That complacency even came through as a fan, or even wanting to give the image of complacency while potentially feeling different on the back end.

Then how can Parker be stupid enough to bad mouth A7X and ADTR when he wants to make money? Just some brain dead decisions from him.

At the end of Proper Dose when they stopped dividing up songwriting credits evenly and started being more “me” financially focused… I knew it was the point of no return. You gotta tour with the guy who makes 2 times what you do and contributed the least to the process. But because he’s got lyrics and melody and you just played guitar and bass… you aren’t a writer. So you don’t get songwriting points.

Both Neck Deep and TWY's latest albums didn't chart on the billboard 200, if that is a metric were going by (not trying to stir the pot, just found it interesting)

But they did hit #17 and #4 previously and they have 3 million monthly Spotify listeners. ...even without a billboard album this year.

Should've done more research before posting lol. Big fan of your work btw. Feel like you and Will Yip really defined that early 2010s sound

Thank you I do appreciate that. And again with this fun basic data metric, ND’s best performing song is over 180 million streams. The biggest TSSF song has 65 million.

Fuck data. New album is their 2nd best behind PD. With Sam’s production it would probably have ended up their best.

    Composer, but never composed.

i haven't even felt the need to revisit it once

proper dose challenges for my favourite album in this genre ever, and this new one has none of the same impact or charm

Well, I’m sure it’s a combination of both. But there’s a lot of fans that really loved the new album, I agree the mass appeal probably wasn’t as strong bc the production was down a notch. I’m not sure I agree with you about the song writing itself, lyrically this is one of the best pop punk records I’ve heard in a long time. Also, I never said I was ignoring the quality, in fact if you reread my post I talked about my issues with the production… I will say you coming in this thread and the dangerous summer threads and sort of gloating that the bands work without you is subpar is certainly a look…

I never made a comment about the songwriting of ITYSL so I’m not sure what you are referencing. And if you think me responding here is a bad look well I’ve got news for you. I don’t care what you think about me. And I’m actually happy to be a polarizing figure that rubs you the wrong way with my transparent honesty. I never mind chiming in on social media to chat about my production work when people are tagging me and or stating false aspects about me and my work. What a wild way of conducting myself I guess. I care about setting the record straight and discussing the music I produced with people who value and appreciate it and the insight I have to share about it. If that’s not you then I’m sorry I can’t be the best friend you want me to be.

Just realised you have done a lot of Basement’s records. Fuck yeah, love that band. They seem much more likeable too.

They are good guys. They don’t like me much after Promise Everything. But I have nothing bad to say about them. They were talented and capable of being iconic if they committed to it. They broke up in the studio during Colourmeinkindness and then when they got back together to make Promise Everything it was a super tight schedule that we had to complete everything in, therefore I wasn’t focused on being fun guy. I was focused on making a masterpiece in 12 days in London. You can imagine how that went.

They never really gave themselves the chance to be at the level they could have been.
