For me - I loved - end of book spoilers - when Burrich confronts Fitz to get him to take the poison and use the wit to escape Regal's torture and imprisonment. It was such a painful moment when I read it the first time, as I didn't fully grasp the plan, so when it all came together with Burrich exhuming Fitz's body and calling him back from Nighteyes, it was perfect. But yea, that chapter with Burrich, teary eyed, trying to help Fitz and give him the idea of how to get out is one of my favorite fantasy moments

I finished Shadow and Bone tonight. The reason why Alina was able to use her power when Darkling had control of her wasn’t explained that well. How she escaped at the end was DARK af though. I’ll start the next book soon.

Who was it in here who read all of the Elderling books recently? @Vivatoto or @OwainGlyndwr ?

I don't think I actually posted this but I finished the Godsblood Tragedy by Bill Adams and was completely blown away.

Graham (Glasgow, The United Kingdom)’s review of The Godsblood Tragedy

This was an ARC that I was excited for but wow, was I taken back!! Perfect for fans of Sanderson and Bennett but the ending has me buzzing for the rest of the series.

I’ve been watching for your review! I’ve got an ARC as well and I’m itching to get to it, especially now. Looks amazing.

Not that I wasn’t looking forward to it but it really did exceed expectations and the ending was superb. Really looking forward to the rest because I need to more. The last few pages were just incredible and I want to see more about certain things. Hope you get to it soon!

Finished my The Bound and the Broken by Ryan Cahill reread. Brilliant series that just keeps getting better and better. I can understand people having qualms with it but it's top-tier for me.

Onwards to a few ARCs then it's my Stormlight reread!

I have got an absolutely jam-packed back half of the year in terms of my TBR, lots of great stuff, but I’m for sure going to carve out the time for TB&TB in time for book 4’s release. I’ve got two books and two novellas to read and I’m really excited for it.

also gotta leave some room for a spooky little story about a dog and a gardener

Hey, I have a couple ebooks that I want to gift to people. Michael Nicol's Gloom and Zammar Ahmer's Riven Earth and Sundered Moon. I've read the first two and I'm halfway through Sundered Moon so I can vouch for all three books. Anyone wants one just let me know, FCFS.

finished the Farseer Trilogy. Not super thrilled about how it ended but overall very good. The second book was my favorite of the three. I do see however that Fitz's adventures continue in later novels so maybe I'll get around to those someday.

Finally was able to finish Oathbringer, this book was a little slower to me compared to the first two, but it had the feel of setting the stage for a very interesting fourth book. Learning the twist about the voidbringers…again! was crazy, but I had started thinking about it based on the way some of the singers spoke about things. Glad we got a good bit of Shallan and Jasnah being alive. As usual, the ending 100-150 pages was wild. Dalinar’s journey in this book was very well done. Hoping to get started on Rhythm of War this week. Then I’ll probably run through the Mistborn stuff while I wait for book five this winter.

If you enjoyed the writing, I would not skip the next non-fitz series in the overall world, The Liveship Traders. It has one of my favorite character arcs and I think a lot of peoples too. There's someone you will undoubtedly hate when introduced and then at some point in the series, realize that you no longer do. It also has some cool ties in to the Farseer trilogy and ultimately adds context / plot for later series. It's multi POV and a vastly different story than Farseer but has all the hallmarks of a Robin Hobb (rich flowery prose and heavily character focused).

I just started my Stormlight reread this morning (from the very beginning). I have not read 4 yet. Your thoughts on Oathbringer mirror mine at the time. I'd rank what I did read as 2 / 1 /3 pretty easily but we'll see how I feel after another pass. I need to read about 40 pages a day to get through all 4 by release date of 5. And I want to read a little faster and squeeze in a few others that I think will be beneficial.

I missed this post, sorry for the double, but the audio books for these series are uhhh rough. The narrator for the Liveship traders took me a while to get used to, and the next Fitz books change narrators. They were all a mixed bag for me even the first 3 you just listened to. I don't think any of them are close to some of the top tier audio books I've enjoyed. It looks like there's multiple versions now as well... I'd have to look to see who I listened to.

Has anyone read this? - Five Broken Blades
Five Broken Blades (The Broken Blades, #1)

It turned out to be way more romance than I expected, and is basically just a bunch of couples tropes (Enemies to lovers / grumpy sunshine etc). I'm only asking as I have 100 pages left and I've lost steam. but all the comments are basically just 'wow, great twist ending' etc. I'm not sure I care enough to continue but I am a sucker for a good rug pull. It definitely hasn't been the book I thought it was, and not my usual style (though the beginning hooked me in fast before I realized what it was).

My sister just finished it. I think she liked it quite a bit, but her tastes are a little different than mine in fantasy.

I'm not opposed to reading romantasy or romance-heavy books at all, but I do keep getting suckered in by cool covers and synopses and then looking harder and realizing it's not the adult epic fantasy I thought it would be haha.

She just told me "it's not a great romance and it's not a great fantasy either, just kind of middle-of-the-road for both genres, but I like the trickery and lies enough to finish it. The twist ending is good but is setting up a lot of new stuff for the sequel and that's why people hype the ending."
