Is the UK election landslide a repsonse to everyone finally realizing how stupid Brexit was, or are there other factors?

Not to stand up for the world's most boring man, but Kier has never said anything against trans people afaik. The only time he's ever spoken about them was when asked about it by bad faith journalists, and he's generally tried to sidestep the questions, albeit clumsily.

If anything, he said a couple of years ago that "trans women are women", and he then said earlier this year that “no woman’s rights will he stripped away”, which makes me think he was just following his strategy of trying not to upset anyone before he got in.

    Cowardly, maybe, but it's worked.

    Many, many more factors.

The Conservatives have been in for 15 years now. During which time the country has seen wages stagnate, prices of everything rise, water companies pollute our rivers and coasts, public transport is a mess, the NHS is now on it's knees with massive waiting lists, and much more.

Also, they were caught lying and awarding massive multi-billion pound contracts to their friends during covid, as well as partying and breaking covid lockdowns. That really turned public opinion. They've been caught cheating, lying, and stealing.

It would honestly require a whole essay to explain all the factors, but fucking thank god.

I hope they lose as many seats as possible. Fuck them.

From what I was seeing, labour only got like 3% more share of the vote than last election, which is what sent Corbyn packing, right? So its not even really labour changing and adapting better policies, its just conservatives being terrible and people looking elsewhere.

Really highlights the eff'd up nature of FPTP that you can do more or less the same performance, but either get a landslide win or a landslide loss just based on how the other parties perform

Yeah, I guess Labour cottoned onto the fact that they didn’t have to do anything amazing, they just had to let the Tories collapse.

They almost campaigned on the basis of “Look at how fucked everything is thanks to the Tories” as opposed to “this is how we fix it”. I could certainly name you policies, but only because my mum has been a Labour member most of my life (and even she wanted to vote Green this election, and I did).

I don’t really like it, but seeing as how Miliband and Corbyn got eviscerated by the press and lost, I get it.

you really don't have to defend this prick

In a recent BBC Question Time debate, he said he agreed with former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s comment, that "biologically, a woman is with a vagina and a man is with a penis".
    - What are the parties saying about women's rights and gender identity?

“Do biological males with gender recognition certificates have the right to enter women-only spaces? It’s a simple yes/no question.”

When asked by a journalist at The Times to respond, Starmer said: “No. They don’t have that right. They shouldn’t."

“That’s why I’ve always said biological women’s spaces need to be protected.”
    - Keir Starmer: Trans women 'don't have right' to use women-only spaces | The National

He also made a chilling pronouncement that seemingly amounts to support for schools “outing” trans youth to their parents, saying that he “would want to know” if his child identified as trans or non-binary.

Starmer said: “Look, of course I’d want to know. I say that as a parent. I would want to know and I think the vast majority of parents would want to know.

When asked about the sex organs that women “can have”, instead of shutting down this invasive line of questioning, Starmer said: “For 99.9 per cent of women, it is completely biological … and of course they haven’t got a penis.”
    - Keir Starmer slammed for 'throwing trans people under the bus’

Keir Starmer is facing fierce criticism from trans folks and allies for once again back peddling on previous statements about the trans community.

In an interview with Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (30 April) the Labour leader threw his support behind the gender critical views of Canterbury MP Rosie Duffield – beliefs he has previously criticised.

When asked if it was “right or wrong for Rosie Duffield to say women have a cervix” Starmer replied: “Biologically, she of course is right about that.” This is a shift from comments he made in 2021 where he said such statements were “not right”.
    - Keir Starmer continues to U-turn on trans rights – he's now backing Rosie Duffield

They do realize that if they don't actually fix the problems, its just going to let reform get an even bigger foothold, right? So they better have a plan to fix the problems...

The absolute dream would be Lib Dem as the opposition so they can float proportional representation on their opposition days, but that seems like an absolute pipe dream sadly. Also, because of the Labour/Lib Dem pact in a lot of seats, it’s numerically difficult.
