kurt has had zac garren on his recent solo tours and they've been playing a couple songs from s/t live, including that one

Kurt Travis been randomly posting DGD lyrics of songs he was on but not lyrics he sang. I don't really understand

That tour ended September last year, he's been touring with Royal Coda lately and currently. Also didn't do Self Trepidation

 

I was playing all of my music on shuffle waiting for a song to grab me to listen to a whole album. it was Happiness today. That really was a special time for this band. Still sounds way more refreshing than what came later, but hard to say if it's because the most recent formula went for 4-5 albums or if the Happiness era is really that much better. I do think Zach Garren brought something to the table with Will that we haven't seen since.

 

Happiness is def an outlier where they were doing things they’d never do again. I went years refusing to even try listening to them after they abandoned Kurt and Zach for the dbm 2 cash grab but later went on to appreciate it for what it is. Still they kept pushing that overly polished sound when tilian joined so the more raw sounding happiness and dbm2 sounds were abandoned

 

Yeah, overly polished/produced for sure. I can pick out what each instrument is doing much easier on Happiness than later albums. At least we got Happiness. Time to go listen to some Royal Coda to see if it scratches a similar itch.

 

Happiness is fucking goated

 

Yeah I wish they followed that direction for longer.

 

Kurt was such a perfect fit for the funkier direction they pursued on Happiness

 

It isn’t my favorite anymore (acceptance speech or mothership probably take that for me now) but it’s definitely going to go down as one of the most unique late 00s rise records albums

 

Deathstar and Happiness is peak DGD.

Funny this thread got bumped today bc I was just gonna tell you about the only remotely good DGD-type band doing it rn and somehow they only have 200 monthly listeners and their music video has like 20 views. But holy shit they are great

 

I don't know, I think there are plenty of progressive/experimental post-hardcore (or swancore) bands out there at the moment doing their own thing.

If you're after something relatively underground though I'd recommend Blight Town who are from the UK.

not to be all “I still listen to this band who gives a fuck!!!” because I totally get why people don’t anymore and I didn’t for a long time but I did recently revive my master playlist for my car since I just got a car for the first time in a while and I associate their music with summer and nostalgia is a hell of a drug, anyway while I do very much enjoy listening to their old stuff it just highlights what a shame it is I’ll likely never care about them again and everything else they do is just naturally gonna sound bad to my ears. I have a few jackpot juicer songs on the playlist since I think just a select few are insanely good tracks but I just cant listen to any of those one offs they’ve done since even the ones without tilian. It’s not even that I’m like mad or upset that they’re still around that I just….dont care about them? Like they could come out tomorrow and admit to everything they’ve done wrong and put out a solid plan to make right on the last 10+ years of cultivating a horrible culture amongst their inner circle and their fan base and I still think I’d be completely ambivalent to their continued existence.

Great album
