Oh man, we just had a family get together and my girlfriend mentioned not voting for Biden because Palestine and it went so much worse than I expected. We love the people we were with and all left on good terms but only after tears and typical old person democrat things like “biden is a good man” and a random “elon musk is scary because he’s racist AND a genius” and i was so uncomfortable during all of this I couldn’t even laugh at anyone referring to musk as a genius


edit: it was interesting that everyone at least agreed the DNC should replace Biden

 

I want to say it won't hurt him too too bad with moderates, but at the same time I can't really picture what a moderate even looks like or thinks about at this point in time, so who knows? I also have no idea what he can do by himself but I know trump constantly did all sorts of shit he wasn't supposed to be able to do but just did it anyways so for me it would be nice to see Biden actually try.

 

most of trumps damage was through the bureaucracy+ a court willing to let him get away with some stuff. Luckily some of the other stuff he tried to do just flat out didn’t get done because it legally couldn’t get done. It was always funny to see the wording of some of those executive orders he wrote because it would say something like “Agency X will look for a way to try to do Y”, in other words he just wanted to look like he was getting it done lol.

The bureaucracy is where a Pres can do a lot, especially with a friendly court. Trump is going to do his best to tear it down and mold it in his MAGA image. It would be super damaging, but maybe less so if we get Trump+Dem Senate

Biden won’t drop out because as soon the party stops giving him whatever drug cocktail he’s getting to stay alive he will turn to dust within 48 hours.

Anyways, I think I’ve said in here before that the democrats don’t care about winning and Id like to amend that statement. They care about winning for the sake of their donors, to ensure some element of corporate interest is catered to. They don’t care to fight and win on issues around women’s rights, the environment, LGBT rights, and certainly not to help the poor and marginalized in general. For months Dem voters have expressed concerns about Biden’s age and mental capacity. Now that some of the donor class (as represented by pundits) is expressing these concerns following a ~truly disastrous~ debate performance, calls for him to step aside very well might be taken seriously.

 

I am decidedly more pro-Biden than everyone here, and think he’s been a very capable president; but I cannot believe how many people on the internet are trying to convince others that the problem was that he was raspy, but at least he told the truth. It’s insane how much gaslighting is going on. I mean, the man literally said that he “beat medicaid.” He couldn’t form a coherent sentence. I don’t have anything new to add here, but it’s just insane to me that others are using that as their talking point. I hope he steps aside. The infrastructure is already there waiting for a new candidate. I don’t think it would be as hard as people make it seem. Also, it’d allow the party to immediate coalesce around someone new. There would be no “sowing discontent.” If he does step aside, I think he does so with an immediate successor in place, and one that everyone in congress rallies around right away.

 

If he does step down and gets to choose his successor, it's Kamala, right? I don't see him picking anyone else.

 

Yeah, it has to be. You don’t want a full on brokered convention where we don’t know who the candidate is for certain until damn August. I know it’s exciting to think of someone else, but it has to be Kamala.

 

Oh my god, PLEASE drop out. Still don’t believe it will happen but that this is even a thing is farther than I thought this would go.

Hard to imagine it would be anyone other than Kamala but I gotta think she’d stand at least as good of a chance as Biden would have if he hadn’t gone on stage and drooled everywhere

 

I’ll go full khive if she gets to be president somehow even if natural causes do their thing

It would almost definitely be Kamala if only because she’s the only candidate that can use Biden’s war chest. Would greatly prefer nearly any other name mentioned though
