Don’t feel like I’ve seen any super high praise of it. The best seems to be relatively lukewarm. That, mixed with the absolutely insane budget, makes me feel like it’s not something they’ll want to take another swing at. That being said, I’d love to be proven wrong, especially if a season 2 is more dark side centric.

They're looking at streaming numbers and weird engagement data metrics. People who hate this show still seem to be watching it.

 

saw somewhere that apparently viewership for this has been really strong, so unless that changes in the next 3 episodes, we'll probably get a second season, albeit not for a while. not sure if a third would happen, but i think Disney is watching the streaming numbers really closely because this is the first project outside of the existing timeline since the ST, and they're probably cognizant about people's complaints that they're too reliant on the existing eras and need to branch out more. so viewership patterns will probably give a good indication as to how they'll approach that going forward beyond a second season or the upcoming films.

 

How does this have a crazy budget?

 

After ep 5 I'm confident viewership numbers will grow stronger to the end. This show will definitely be getting a S2

 

Positive or negative engagement is engagement, and people are engaging with this show in a way they haven't with a Disney+ Star Wars show since the first season of Andor.

this is why Netflix keeps pumping out slop. it's all about viewership. for better or for worse, it sells.

 

As cynical as it sounds I really think Manny Jacinto might have saved this show. Things suddenly got way better the moment he got more than a few seconds as the Sith. Not just his character or the fight choreography either, his performance was miles ahead of anyone else's in this show so far.

 

I was watching that episode like damn the dark side seems like a pretty good sell if I can have arms like Manny's. dude is a weapon in this show

 

anyone remember that one post from several years ago where some girl said she went to see Black Panther and clenched her jaw so hard when shirtless Michael B. Jordan came on screen that she broke her braces (which prompted Michael to pay to have them fixed)? all i thought when i saw Manny's arms was "i think this is gonna happen again. someone's gonna have dental bills after this episode."

 

me and my housemates watched the Creed trilogy recently and we were all constantly missing plot points because we'd be talking about how goddamn hot Michael B Jordan is lol

 

I mean it has a higher per episode budget than House of the Dragon (and arguably looks cheaper), so there's that.

 

I will admit there are points where the sets look pretty cheap and make this show feel very small and insular.

 

my wife begrudgingly watched the show with me until that episode and when he took the mask off she irl pulled the man sitting at attention meme and now she won’t shut up about it

 

i was thinking green lady or CAM killed the witches but i’m thinking after this episode it was definitely Sol

 

If it was Sol because he lost control of his anger and has been living with that regret for the rest of his life that makes sense.

It just amazes me that these Disney shows look like this, and House of Dragon looks incredible for a similar price tag
