I have said it in this thread before, but Biden could have just did one term said "I was the POTUS that got us through Covid, and passed the biggest infrastructure bill in generations" and passed the baton to Kamala or Newsome or whoever and called it a legacy. The outlook would be a lot less grim if he went that route. Him going against every measure of common sense and seeking re-election at his age is going to go down has one of the most destructive politically selfish moves in presidential history. The fucking hubris.

 

I’m sitting here in the suburbs in Ibaraki and it’s the first time in a few years I haven’t had to hear the passing of city traffic outside. I only hear school kids walking home and a bird. I can’t tell if this is me coming to my senses or just me being old.

When I was younger, I always thought living in a city would be nice because of the convenience, but as I get older, I think I’d trade that convenience for quietness—especially after moments like that debate.

 

Hearing all these mainstream Libs finally outright saying what the left has been blaring the horn about for over 3 years but adding "He is a decent man but..." Infront of it 4 months to election is wild as hell.

Got about three hours of sleep because I up all night freaking out about this. Sad!

I couldn't even watch it, and have avoided seeing clips so far. Only seeing the discourse.

 

This is one of those rare instances in a campaign season where the discourse is accurate and not exaggerated; Biden’s performance was literally as bad as it could have been. I knew this debate was going to be depressing but now I wish I just hadn’t watched it at all.

Biden was never going to say anything remotely interesting or inspiring but I was at least hoping he’d be able to form a coherent sentence and/or defend himself THE LEAST BIT so I could pretend a little longer that we weren’t going to elect a fascist, but nope, he could hardly even put three words together

 

I don't understand why the dems don't think anyone else can beat trump?

 

I’d be surprised if that 5% shifted away from Trump. He hit all the nails that his fanbase loves to hear

 

If Newsom replaced Biden today he would sweep the rug of Trump

 

very unimportant with everything else going on but I found it darkly funny that the person you were talking about was literally trump's assistant and his director of strategic communications!

the debate format & rules absolutely benefited trump and were a huge stumbling block for Biden

I strongly disagree. I do not think pointing out trump's lies is an effective strategy at all for taking him or his entire political apparatus on - he and his supporters have shown time and again that there is no lie too ridiculous or statement too beyond the pale to just ignore and or immediately lie again about and just loudly claim he never said over and over again

the one smart, coherent thing Joe Biden said last night was "it's hard to debate a liar" or whatever the quote was

 

I agree and I don't even think Newsom would be a strong candidate against a "normal" Republican.

 

Thinking back to the incredibly self assured statements by Biden talking heads a year ago thinking they could automatically ride Jan 6th and Abortion ban anger into an election win despite every poll saying otherwise. Like they really thought the midterm strategy (that only just barely worked) would carry over to a presidential election two years later.

The worst moment for Biden imo was when they had the abortion topic which is THE topic he can win on and he starts talking about someone that was killed by an immigrant which is one of his most unpopular topics. Just straight up shooting himself in the foot for no reason

 

Even establishment lib geeks are starting to see this train wreck candidacy for what it is, the guy is well and truly cooked

I looked her up after posting and saw that and was shocked. She was the only one who brought up some legit points, some of which we were talking about in this thread, like when she referenced the youth vote and said no one under 30 would feel good about this debate. When I saw she was a Trump communications person I had a wtf moment for sure.

 

I doubt Trump will agree to a debate with anyone other than Biden. What’s he to win with that
