It’s not the craziest idea to think the democrats wanted this debate to be this early and before the convention so that in case things REALLY went poorly, they could prepare for an open convention and change the nominee.

Someone needs to get in Biden’s ear that his legacy would be SO much better/fondly remembered in the future if he drops out now. He’d be remembered largely for beating Trump, passing some huge legislation, and getting out early for the good of the party and country. This 6-12 months of political “chaos” he created by not dropping out sooner would be mostly forgotten. That’s the only way I think you could convince anyone with the ego to run for president to drop.
