100% this. I didn’t watch a second of this and it’s better if no one did.

Obama’s first debate against Romney didn’t go well either, against a much better opponent. That was closer to the election than this one was as well. I think there are plenty of maniacs who are locked into Trump, but there are also plenty of people who will be swayed by the slew of bad news and worse policy that comes out in the coming months that the GOP will do if elected.

It’s still early out there. Despair helps no one and nothing.

Folks I watched the debate with my mom and her takeaway was that Trump sounded crazy and it might have convinced her to vote for Biden just to stop Trump from winning.

So if everyone that watched was my mom, we’re in good shape. Unfortunately, I’m willing to bet that is as far from the case as possible.

I think Biden stepping down could work as a Hail Mary

I really worry that for a number of dem elites, they don't buy the whole "Trump is going to destroy democracy" line, and the threat of climate change doesn't worry them because they'll be dead in 30 years so if the earth is too whatever.

They also see that the economy is holding on by a thread, and that thread will quite possibly snap sometime in the next four years. So for them, Trump winning everything tanking and then they ride in on a white horse in 2028 sets them up better than winning in 2024 having another four years of barely holding everything together, and then republicans win in 2028.

    Newsom is the obvious choice.

Honestly if you're gonna hail mary, that is the only choice that could possibly work.

    - Bernie doesn't give a fuck about 2028 (newsome would be too worried about tanking his 2028 chances)
    - it could actually pull young people into the vote
    - vote blue no matter who / trump must be stopped at all costs neolibs would actually have to put their money where their mouth is

They're having this debate right now because it's unavoidable after that showing but the DNC sucks so bad I still don't think there's any way they could pivot. They only have two fucking months to sell us on Hillary again before the convention

I think it's physically impossible for the apparatus to force him off the ticket

How could Jill be okay with him running even though. Anybody watch after the debate was over? She had to help him down the steps and she tried to be discrete about it but it was pretty obvious.

when they say vote blue no matter who, they mean vote for the Dem that's closest to a Republican. it doesn't apply to progressives

for Pres yeah that is correct, but for VP I remember a lot of people thought Hillary was too obvious/“pandering” from Obama, and I think people thought she wouldn’t accept it because of how nasty the primary got. Edwards I remember less of why he didn’t end up VP. Biden was seen as kind of a joke as a presidential candidate but got talked up a lot as a potential VP for Obama because he was a good contrast to what people thought Obama’s weaknesses were, aka young and inexperienced on foreign policy (and black, but that part wasn’t said out loud of course).

  25. Aaaanyway, Biden is going to be on that ticket unless he dies. DNC admit a problem? Not bloody likely
