Just got that email. What was the original start time? That venue has a strict 10pm curfew so I gotta imagine Soco goes on no later than 8:30.

Also a heads up that its supposed to be in the 90s on Friday and that rooftop has very little shade!

The general consensus around Zombies on this site has always seemed pretty cold, but I think that album rules. Just great fucking pop songs across the board. "Fire Escape"? Super catchy. "So Close"? Legitimately euphoric? "Dead Mean's Dollar"? Total fucking banger. And then he still rips your heart out on the last two songs. Tilt at the Wind No More is a little less successful, but is still mostly great.

When it was first announced it was 8:00 pm which I found questionable then at some point it was pushed to 7:30 and now 7.

Will be sure to stay hydrated!

Yea, I really like Zombies now. It didn’t fully click til I heard a lot of it live for me though. I’d put Love and Great Buildings as top tier Andrew.

Zombies floored me when I first listened and I’m surprised I don’t revisit it more. Definitely top tier Andrew for me

The only one I really loved from it was Island Radio. The singles are catchy but they are a pretty good example to me of what other people were saying about it sounding like that generic pop alt radio stuff. It’s not bad! I still hum or sing Fire escape randomly to this day. It’s just not my favorite Andrew McMahon sound.

“Birthday Song” is such a surprisingly insightful song to play at the end of that album, but it’s just totally Andrew. Even on his most “mainstream” album, there’s so much stuff that no one else could write.

Definitely a bit of a mixed bag album but there's a ton of great tracks

Love and Great Buildings/House In The Trees are perfect examples of how to blend his old and new sound.

Catchy song. Kinda what I was expecting, leaning more towards the Wilderness sound and not Something Corporate, but not bad. What made me love this band in the first place was their beautiful blend of piano rock and pop punk-iness with crunchy guitars and piano mixed, but it makes sense why they don't wanna go in that direction anymore.

    Yes, it's me

This is definitely true. I'm guilty of it myself. Most of the bands I grew up with (Lagwagon, NOFX, Millencolin, MxPx etc...) are still releasing good music, but it doesn't feel like it felt when I was 16, and it never will.

Just to add to the nomenclature discussion, the first song was Andrew and SoCo, but the next is SoCo and Andrew haha

Lines up with what Andrew said before it was all announced officially. Initially he said it would be one titled Wilderness ft SoCo and one SoCo ft Wilderness. This is slightly different phrasing, but effectively the same.

Posted this in the SoCo thread earlier. Guess I should post it here, too.

So............... the "holy grail" for Andrew fans was just found and shared on reddit, an 18-song demo CD from between Something Corporate and Jacks Mannequin. Only a few of them became JM songs but the rest are all unreleased/unfinished... anyway... DM if you you wanna
