Dan did a feature on UK band Beauty School's new single (no I will not post this in the soccer thread for balance)

Never really listened to Thrice so I didn't realize Deadbolt was a cover but it rocks

My brother text me last week "I do NOT like the new direction TWY are headed in..." He learned a lot about Thrice that evening.

I really dig that deadbolt cover

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

a full hardcore album in the style of this and Vulture would go so hard

It's never what I thought I would've wanted from them, but it somehow is now

We reach for the longest shadow

Honestly a heavy TWY album makes sense for me as a trajectory. I love Songs About Death, so see where that rabbit hole takes you.

Yeah I'd love for them to dive into a heavier sound. Feels like ore-Vultures, they've showed hints of a heavier sound but never dove into it fully. Would really enjoy that.

Old Friends like Lost Teeth goes hard too

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Old Friends is probably my favorite track off the last record.

Old Friends, Songs About Death, and Cardinals II all feel like they were kinda testing the waters for this kind of direction

Hum is the best. I rarely revisit older albums at this point but that one I still really can't get enough of.

Not sure any song for me could ever beat You're The Reason. Such a special song on an incredible album.

"Put the work in, plant a garden, try to stay afloat" is the only song lyric (really the only thing period) I've ever wanted to get tattooed

    "I don't wanna die
    'Cause I gotta protect you
Youre the reason I can't leave here yet
The reason I don't want the world to end
    I don't wanna die
I wanna light you through your darker months
I wanna swallow the sun before it can swallow us"

Can't even read that without choking up. No part of a song has ever hit me that hard. Seeing that live for the first time was just me ugly crying for half the song.

I like heavy TWY but really the fast and hard pop punk is their wheelhouse. Hum is so great because it seamlessly combines those two modes.
I love their earlier albums but Sister Cities lacked the pop punk hooks and Heaven kind of had heavy songs and poppier songs without as much cohesion. Just my opinion. Also both albums sound pretty muddy.
I'd be happy with anything from them at theis point, they have put out like 4 or 5 of my favourite albums. But I doubt a fully heavy TWY album would be as appealing to me. Although that said they could pull it off and blow my mind I'm sure.

Put on my “best albums of 2022” playlist yesterday at work. Legitimately could not sign into a Teams call on time because I started openly bawling before I knew what was happening when this part of the song came on.

    What a fucking band, man.

A couple years on now, I'm pretty comfortable saying Hum is pretty easily their best album. Sentimentally, I might still have TGG above it, but it's a lot closer than I think I would've even anticipated.

My girlfriend, who really likes Dan and likes the band but more so just appreciates them because they're my favorite band also really connected to Hum in a way she hasn't any of the previous records in full.

  25. Hum is definitely their best imo
