One of my good friends is the same way. I think he thinks that he's making it easier on us, but it always becomes "well okay I guess I have to plan everything now, thanks." I love him, but it's maddening.

But how do you know what kind of food you'll be in the mood for when you get there? What if you planned for tacos but are craving bbq?

This is the right way to do it

unless I’m on a trip and the circumstances call for a impromptu restaurant stop, I gotta go in knowing what I want or at least having a few options I know I would like

I don't really get food-specific cravings. Part of the fun of making the itinerary though is researching the local restaurants and being open to trying whatever is the best in the area. You also take into account the location, weather, time of year, etc.

I know what I’m getting at pretty much every restaurant before I ever get there

There is something to be said for the fun of opening a menu and finding you want one of everything.

When we were on our road trip, when it was near mealtime and we didn’t want to eat pb&j, whoever was in the passenger seat had the job of looking in towns coming up and finding restaurants and looking at their menus so we would know what we were getting into. A decent amount of stops were preplanned, like breweries and the Midpoint Cafe on Route 66, but others were “okay let’s see what’s good near by.” That’s how we ended up getting lunch at the roadkill cafe on Route 66 in Arizona haha

  17. And if they've changed the menu or what you were going to get isn't on there ...? Little moment of panic, ngl. Usually there's a backup plan, but sometimes the entire menu is different, or it's a brunch menu instead of lunch, and then it gets real wild.

Oh, I was gonna get the italian club? now it's only breakfast being served until 1pm? I AM NOT PREPARED. Let me stumble over myself awkwardly and make a dad joke.

My wife has a dietary restriction so I look up every single restaurant we'd ever consider going to. Couldn't possibly raw dog it
