Rodent and In Remission are the two that I go back to the most, not a huge fan of that album at all.

When I listened to it, I missed some of the grit of the previous albums, but I've always liked it and I think it's a good hybridization of their different sounds now. I don't listen to it as much as OTIP or CW but I still listen to it a lot

That is a fair comment. I suppose I meant more of "releasing the best song first" kind of thing. But like you said they released In Remission, last cycle and for OTIP they released Gates, so I guess I don't know.
I just think that this album is going to be good back to front. . I would just honestly be surprised if something better than Lookers wasn't on this record, as good as it may be. Maybe wishful thinking, but that's just what it seems to me at the moment. Like if Lookers is this album's Gates then there is a Casey hiding on there somewhere, you know?

I'd say Rodent and In Remission are the best on RW. It's the only one I'd put on the level of most of CW and OTIP. Kind of stale on Bad Catholics but still love Lookers.

I think at this point I might just be too close to OTIP to have an unbiased opinion on it, but that said I agree with what you're saying here for sure. RW was a good follow up to a great record.

RW has some of their best songs, but OTIP is one of my favorite albums of all time (Kanye voice). In my top 3, along with TGAD and The Sufferer and the Witness.

I would say the top songs on RW are Asshole, In Remission, Rodent, and Nothing Feels Good Anymore.

I hate to knock Tom's songs, but I always gravitate more towards Greg's songs.

I straight up do not care that Sun Hotel #2 is like half a cover, it's one of my favorite Menzingers songs ever

Also helps that Chelsea Hotel #2 is a classic song and Leonard Cohen is a songwriting god among men. But yeah, Sun Hotel #2 is spectacular and seeing it live was a moment in time. I also saw Gaslight play a snippet of Chelsea #2 over the bridge of, I think, Have Mercy. Lost my mind.

That Chelsea Hotel part over Have Mercy blew me away.

Yeah, Chelsea Hotel is great, love it, and I think Greg sort of superimposing his own experiences over those lyrics is pretty firmly in the folk tradition, imo anyway. I still haven't listened to Gaslight tho

Yeah, Bad Catholics is far from my favorite Menz song sonically but I relate to it a whole bunch. I just turned 26 so I'm on that cusp of seeing everyone really go over the hump to adulthood. My two biggest high school sweethearts both are married with kids.

Lyrics are fantastic but the actual melody is a bit lacking. Dont enjoy the chorus

The lyrics make up for it but the introductory melody is one of the worst things they've put out.

  19. Lookers is a waaaaay better song but BC is pretty good

CW and OTIP are relatively even for me until I listen to obituaries and gates

Also regardless of its flaws bad catholics is a 10/10 singalong song, screaming along to it in the car because I can't sing for shit is very satisfying

Interview while in Germany with the Souls. This was done right before the album date was announced. Some good info on the record in terms of where the band was mentally while writing and its overall vibe.

I just watched this the other day. It was definitely very interesting, but I'm not gonna lie when he was talking about signing to a big label and he kept it relatively vague, I really wanted to know more haha. I know we've talked here before about likely culprits, but still they finished the record in May haha.

I still like A Lesson...more than CW. CW has Time Tables, which is their best song tho. They're at least pretty close, in my head.

Idk if everyone has listened to Hold on Dodge, it sorta bridges the gap between those albums, Sunday Morning is one of my favorite Menz songs
