Having recently did a rewatch of Obi Wan in the last few weeks. Yeah Reva's acting is stiff, and the Leia stuff was pretty cornball, but man that Obi/Vader duel still hits.

Also upon 2nd viewing I did appreciate the ending a lot more. Reva's turn back to the light after not having it in her to kill Luke mirrored Vader's fate in Episode VI, and it was a reaffirmation to Obi Wan that redemption for Anakin was still possible.

 

The kids acting is rough but I didn’t think the episode is bad at all

 

i felt like Leia's material would've worked better in a different project, even though i liked her portrayal and arc.

conversely, Moses was my favorite part of the whole show. was her character a bit one-note at times? sure. but she ate up every scene.

 

They do love doing this thing where they name a show after a character, and then immediately introduce a more popular character that the show actually centers around.

I don’t hate any of the concepts introduced in this show but man, production is just so all over the place in Disney Star Wars.

 

Obi-Wan. It’s bad. Wasn’t a huge issue for me or anything, but it just didn’t come out well for that specific sequence.

 

i gotcha. i just rewatched the scene and the only thing that felt stupid was that one woman running right into the branch. other than that, it doesn't register as that terrible, idk. i just wasn't aware that was a thing people got so worked up about?

 

It was huge for some people. Not necessarily on here, I can’t recall where I saw it more. I got where they were coming from, but it didn’t ruin the episode or anything for me. Just noted it and moved on.

 

It was like Power Ranger level bad, made worse by the presence of Flea

 

Having seen over 20 seasons of Power Rangers, maybe that’s why it wasn’t as big a deal to me haha

 

yeah, this is my biggest problem with these shows - marketing them as a predominantly singular character study only for them to be an ensemble piece with less presence from the lead its named after. in theory, there's nothing wrong with doing this if your lead has a good amount of screentime and character development, but all of these shows have in one way or another sidelined their leads or failed to develop their characters further. Mando is the least offensive in this regard, and i think his arc in S2 was fantastic. i can forgive Ahsoka because she ultimately did get some significant time focused on her character (and i really enjoyed it even though i haven't watched Rebels yet). BOBF had some good character development at the beginning only to sideline him for two episodes (even though i liked those episodes a lot) and bolster the rest of the show with weak stories. Obi-Wan just felt so inconsequential. it was marketed as simultaneously being a character study that would've gotten Ewan closer to Alec Guinness's portrayal while reuniting him with Hayden, but the latter got the primary focus (which i argue it didn't really need to), and while i enjoyed a couple side plots, they bogged down any true chance at significant character development for the show's lead. he had a lot of screentime, sure, but there are so many plot arcs going on (most of them, for the record, were really good, specifically Reva's arc) that some of them felt like they cut into time we could've spent better exploring both his grief about Anakin and his individual personality, showing elements that would shape Alec's portrayal. i liked lots of elements of it, but it could've been so much more, which is why i rank everything live action but TPM and AOTC above it.

 

Planning on revisiting sometime this year. My biggest gripe is that they didn’t have the voice actor play the grand inquisitor. Dude has such gravitas. He came off campy and silly in the show.

 

no worries, man, haha. it's been a minute since i've watched, so i don't remember much of the discussion surrounding the show other than people hating Moses Ingram.

 

Episode was fine but the weakest so far. Haters gonna stay mad when I use the thread on yall

Someone mentioned above, but could see Koril being behind the killing of the coven. If that isn’t true, could then see her surviving the attack and being the Sith, or dark force user, training Mae.

i thought the kids were fine? and yeah I would imagine Koril provoked but the jedi did slaughter them afterwards.

 

I think you’ll enjoy it.

 

The only scene the kids really bugged me in was when she was giving them a lesson and they weren’t paying attention.

 

Being made of stone, how did the place light up on fire so fast? How did all the witches die within like a minute? Mae seems like an absolute psycho

 

That was probably the most realistic scene of how kids actually are in the entirety of Star Wars

 

I can easily tell you why people online didn't like Moses Ingram and it had nothing to do with her acting.

 

In the script yes but the way it was acted was something else

 

The theories picking apart the episode are cool and all, but it’s a murder mystery show and they have referenced Rashomon. I am confident we will get different perspectives of the event that give clarity. lol that being said the payoff could suck. I am hopeful tho that they will stick the landing. I have found the storytelling to be compelling and different enough while giving new takes on nods to the mythology. As an avid High Republic reader it’s cool to see the style actualized in live action. I thought the moment with the Mom letting her kid go be a Jedi was really well done and a good riff on the Anakin phantom menace scene.
