I’m just here for the entitled whining. Keep it up! Wish I had a festival like this anywhere near me. It’s not like this is what they obviously planned for or wanted. The entire event industry is changing and it’s obviously become extremely difficult to navigate a festival like this.

I'm not happy about this, but it's is absolutely not the same as Bamboozle. This is the 3rd festival to leave the city for this location, there's obviously something about it that works.

Seatgeek also has a history of festivals happening and then never booking again.

I'm not worried about the festival itself at all, I'm sure once I'm there I'll have a great time like always. It's really just a matter of figuring out how I'm going to get there and back.

Calling it "entitled whining" is really unfair. Festivals are supposed to be a relaxing experience and I can see somebody looking at a 40-60 minute commute each day for the entire weekend feeling pretty frustrated about it.

EDIT: And as somebody traveling for this thing? I'm not thrilled with the venue change for that same reason and it's pretty much changed my entire outlook on even attending. It might change when the line-up drops but... This all feels weird and I get why people are frustrated.

Lyrical Lemonade has been doing really well there but also it’s a hip hop festival that intentionally books a lot of acts that are very popular with the younger crowd so people make the trek for it (Travis Scott headlined this years for example)

Riot needs a strong lineup to get people to commute there.

There's absolutely nothing relaxing about a festival lol – every one features too many people in weather that's too hot with lines that are too long and food that's too expensive.

Yeah I think my only concern is getting to/from so I hope whatever they do with shuttles works and works well. Also hope they announce more about it sooner rather than later.

Well Northcoast is going on their 3rd year there and they were very similar to Riot Fest in terms of being an established festival that keeps getting bounced around the city. I think new festivals that start out there like the metal one I can't remember the name of or Sacred Rose are going to have a harder time convincing people to trek there for the first year.

A 40-60 minute commute for a festival this large is actually pretty dope and not bad by festival standards. Sounds like some first world problems that are greatly exaggerated.

    You're thinking of Open Air.

I really beg to differ. Being away from work, home, responsibilities and so on for several days straight, surrounded by music I love is super relaxing. Regardless of lines or whatever.

Eh - I wouldn't follow this logic. It is the closest workable place that isn't Chicago Park District that can host an event this size. It is more like there isn't any better options so it has to work.

chicago open air. the first year was pretty much sold out and did really good. year 2 is when they fucked up everything. line up wasnt as good as year one and they jacked up ticket prices. they had a 3rd year that was a bust and it hasn't been back

OK, that's literally just called a vacation though.

Almost 15 minutes to lineup so we can complain about that instead.

Yes. That's what it is. A vacation to a music festival. If people find it stressful then I'm not really sure why they'd go. LOL

I think we can complain for 24 hours when the place they’ve been the last five years and up until last night have been told this is where it’s being held, has changed to a much more difficult location to get to.

For some reason I thought Open Air was at Tinley, but that was before I moved to Chicago. 2018 lineup was good with System of a Down and Tool headlining, but rain made it cut some bands from the first day which gave a cool aftershow at Metro with Code Orange, Knocked Loose and Vein.

Wish I was there for it.

  25. As someone who travels to the fest with friends, one of our favorites parts each year is hanging out in the actual city when we're not at the fest. Hoping the shuttle option works out so we can still do that relatively easy/affordably.
