Hotels in the suburbs are largely clustered around Schaumburg, Gurnee, O’Hare, Midway, Oak Brook, and Tinley/Orland. Yes, there are hotels all over but nothing to the capacity of those areas.

Ahhh, the entitlement of city dwellers who refuse to be inconvenienced by having to travel outside their bubble

Not from Chicago and not attending this year, but following closely. Anything outside the city / CTA accessible would probably deter me from going, too much of a hassle. Also, far away from after shows.

I’ve lived in the suburbs. No way I’m dealing with the traffic.

Out of towner here. Agreed, being in the city for the week we spend there every year is a part of the draw. The suburbs would definitely take some of the allure out of the trip, I think.

I live 15 min from tinley so if it so happens to move there I won’t care one bit. Side streets for the W

also I’ve been going to the city for concerts for 20 years so driving doesn’t really bother me

Also goes to show just how shit our local press is now that there’s not a single story up but that WGN regurgitation. A decade ago and there would have been rumors for months in the press.

If they do move to the suburbs then the aftershows are going to be a problem

They probably won't happen if that's how it goes down.

Time to go to bed and see what deranged ideas people have in the morning.

Not Reddit speculating that it'll be out in the suburbs but Riot Fest parking will be at Douglass Park and they'll be offering shuttles. Holy hell. LOL

I mean, there's A LOT of people who travel from other states and all over the world for it, I've traveled from Mexico City for it and its easy to have the CTA to move from my airbnb to the festival and back.
It's not just "city dwellers entitlement", but as a tourist destination, the need to rent a car or pay Uber from the city to the suburbs will make lot of out of state attendees to not go

So people in the burbs would drive all the way there to be driven back to the burbs? That makes sense.

I don’t understand why riot would still be on the schedule for permit approval if they are just leaving Douglass

Park district is awful at updating the agenda. I could see it pulled tomorrow (especially considering the time the video went up) or being outright denied.

Entirely possible that it just didn’t get removed from the schedule.

It's plausible they didn't tell the park district what they were doing (and honestly, they don't really have to). The video makes it sound like this all happened (relatively) suddenly.

And they maybe knew but just didn't cut it from the agenda. If I send out a meeting agenda and everybody attending knows something is going to get cut (or the question is answered or whatever and everybody knows about it) I don't bother revising the agenda. When that point comes up in a meeting I just say "Okay, we already covered this. Next."

There would be no point in updating an agenda like that if everybody knows the outcome.

I was taking the park meeting to be more of a formality. Whatever came up to cause them to move seems to be more recent and they know they can’t meet whatever requirements needed for Douglas, but the park system still has to formally go through the process it has.

Actually, looking at that permit application and the video it feels like part of it might have involved parking, the roads around the festival, etc. There's some lowgrade shade being thrown.

Important to note that this is the first year they have to really go through the new park district process. Last year was a bit more of a mix between old and new.

I also get the sense that the first announcement is probably scheduled for right after they get formally denied/kicked out of Douglass Park, which is probably why they aren’t doing a real announcement today.

Meeting is at 11:30 so probably enough time to pull it.
