@sophos34 love for dragon age makes me want to try out the franchise tbh

 

please do!!! I don’t like origins as much as most other people honestly at the end of the day it’s probably my least favorite? idk it’s pretty close between that and 2. don’t get me wrong, origins and 2 are FANTASTIC games they just have some archaic mechanics that make them hard to play (I played them both for the first time in 2020-2021 and still enjoyed them) but they’re massively important to the overall story and lore and world building which is where the series really shines that and companions which are also phenomenal in origins and 2. especially 2. I just think inquisition has the best overall package with the best art style and environment/level design and a great action combat system. A lot of people prefer the tactics based system of origins but you can also play that game like an action combat game with tab targeting ala world of Warcraft. 2 is when they started leaning heavy into the action combat systems we see in inquisition. But again, the entire series rules just know origins and 2 are from a different era. Inquisition is too technically but it’s definitely a more familiar type of fantasy rpg compare to the first two entries which is why I mostly suggest starting there because it’s the best first impression and will implore you to dig deeper into the series based on how good it is

 

I bought Dead by Daylight for my Steam Deck, which I’m excited about but I really wish there were a way to transfer purchases because I’ve dropped so much money on characters and items over the years on the PS4 version. But anyway, I bought it yesterday and then last night I had a dream that I was in real life Dead by Daylight, which is the second such dream I’ve had, and it’s this excellent mix of fear and excitement, and even though I’ve now had the same dream twice, it’s never brought up whether I’ll actually die if I’m caught. It definitely feels that way, but last night I remember accepting I was going to get caught because someone jumped in the nearest locker before me, and I just kind of shrugged when the killer found me. I woke up before my question could be answered.

On another note, I also got Monster Hunter World. Don’t really know what to expect but I’m going to start it once I’ve moved on from Subnautica.

 

Eh, could've been worse I guess. I don't see how simplifying the party system even further improves the franchise but okay.

 

i dont think anyone ever said simplifying the party system "improves the franchise" but theres a million and a half reasons why they might've done so. arm chair game dev shit drives me nuts man.

 

I think I’ve seen some people that seemed like they made their minds up when the “Fortnite” trailer came out and probably won’t even bother to look at the gameplay. It’s kinda fucking tiring getting excited for anything anymore because no matter what it is there’s a vocal minority just trashing it because it doesn’t fit their own expectations and/or saying it’s woke or some shit. In the end, I don’t give a shit what those people have to say, but seeing mostly toxic negativity nonstop for stuff you’re excited for or love is just draining.

yeah that kind of shit is honestly why im so sensitive to negativity in this thread even if its minimal and not even close to toxic its just exhausting when you're dealing with that kind of relentlessly toxic negativity elsewhere and i come here to be excited and hype and talk about things i like. its why i have a good number of people who post (or used to post idk) in this thread blocked. it has made it so much more enjoyable to be around here but i still just get that knee jerk reaction in me when i see people being negative about a thing i like because of how bad it is elsewhere on the internet. not to disparage anyone in this thread and if you're negative and im still engaging with you its because i havent blocked you and like your contributions to the thread

also im not buying the 60fps thing til i see it for myself that gameplay reveal had some noticable frame dips however like i said earlier likely its not an up to date build of the game

 

Not that this matters much, but I don't take it personally. Just prepare yourself for more arm chair dev critiques as the game gets closer to release. I'll probably have a lot more on the way.

 

100% FF16 all over again

I totally get that people like the concept of "having a party"/"controlling a party" but there's so many unique ways to replicate that experience and make it feel fresh

 

(And also why I got annoyed when Rebirth came out and people were like "Final Fantasy is saved! 16 flopped and Rebirth will save us! It's the true Final Fantasy!" and then SE made the exact same comments about Rebirth as they did about FF16. They're different games and they're allowed to be different games and innovate in different ways.)

 

I played XCX on a wii u emulator and really liked it but god damn the game needs some QoL updates that I'm sure a re-release would handle. Some balancing was heavily needed too.

 

its also entirely possible and really likely that decreasing the party size was a trade off for something else they wanted to accomplish. the one thing i will say is idk why they would continue using the unwieldy frostbite engine after it made inquisition an absolute hell to develop and im not surprised things in the franchise are being changed in ways that seem huge but more than likely had to be done to make some of the other shit work the way its supposed to. if it means a smoother gameplay experience and tight combat system i dont see the reason to harp on it.

 

The only xenoblade game I haven’t played and it’s one of my favourite series of all time T.T

 

that said i think frostbite is a beautiful engine graphics wise its just notoriously hard to use for RPG's but given the franchise has been going down an action route for a long time now im not surprised or upset that they're going even further and doing what they can with the tools theyve been given. im a huge fan of action rpg's and action adventure games and i have no qualms about dragon age moving in that direction as long as its still a good game with an incredible world. people complained cyberpunk 2077 wasnt a good rpg but its a fantastic action game from what ive heard. hell same with ffxvi. wish people would meet games where they're at and leave their preconceived notions at the door. its much more fun to go through life excited for nu experiences and not being upset things aren't staying the same. its why im not a conservative.

 

im looking a bit more into the RPG systems based on what we know and it really sounds like the skill trees for your character are going to be much, much deeper than previous games which is my guess as to why party size was pared down and you dont have direct control over other party members which i wont lie that part of it is a little bit of a bummer to me i liked being able to play other classes by controlling my party members but if the trade off is more depth in builds im open to seeing how that trade off plays out. again, worked for final fantasy xvi in my opinion and the mass effect series has always functioned like this and its one of my favorites if not my favorite sci fi game ive ever played

Like I can’t think of the last time I myself was that level of excited, maybe I’ve been too jaded about stuff lately to be honestly enthusiastic about anything.

 

its insane seeing people criticize the art style when thats literally what tevinter looks like in all the lore smh fake fucking fans everywhere

 

my mental health has improved dramatically since i stopped being a jaded cynical dick about anything and everything and mostly keeping my negative comments about shit i dont like anyway to myself it's a great way to live

 

Origins is one of my favorite games of all time. Started DA:I again but didn’t get far due to Raiding twice a week in Cataclysm and Retail WoW to get my serotonin.
