Ehh these games coming out are using Stardew's UI, mechanics, and similar music that HM didn't have. Like this game's UI looks almost identical to SDV. Also the battle mechanics look identical to what Concerned Ape showed in the Haunted Chocolatier trailer

Concerned Ape took the basic gameplay of Harvest Moon and made it uniquely his own. Stardew itself might be a "Harvestmoonlike", but these games are definitely more inspired by Stardew and CA's distinct style directly. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's kinda obvious.

Player's Log: My Fucking Heart Being Ripped From My Chest AKA Meg's Monster

I finished the game, 100% achievement completion.

So after the timey-wimey shenanigans, you change the past enough to where now both Roy's friend Golan and Meg are present to stop Roy from attempting to sacrifice himself in the rocket.

You get to fight Roy as Meg and use the toys Roy spent all game pacifying Meg with to get Roy to remember all the good times you had, and eventually Roy breaks down crying that he doesn't want to die. This allows another character enough time to show up and reveal how they can stop Roy from exploding.

The catch? He's going to lose all his memories of the last few weeks, meaning he's going to forget Meg. Of course this is their only choice to both save Roy's life and prevent a calamity, but it's still absolutely heartwrenching, especially after Meg breaks down crying that she'll never forget them.

You even get to play as Roy post-op and see things in his place that he can't remember getting, although the fact that he seems to be remembering fragments is kind of a hope spot, and the last scene is Meg as a grown-up again looking out at the stars, so I want to believe she'll eventually re-establish contact with him.

    It's just so sad!

Anyway, next I'm going to go on an odyssey of WayForward proportions.

I'm not sure how many of their games I'll get through before I move on, but I'm determined to play through as many as I can before I get sick.

I may even incorporate non-Steam games for this, as I do want to play through the original Shantae, and there are other games of theirs like Batman: The Brave And The Bold, Cat Girl Without Salad, and Sigma Star Story that I really want to give a whirl.

That said, on Steam alone I have the other Shantae games, the River City Girls games, Contra: Operation Galuga, A Boy And His Blob, Double Dragon Neon, RWBY: Arrowfell, Spidersaurs, The Mummy Demastered, Lunark... there's a lot!

But I think I'm going to start with one of their earliest PC games, a puzzle game called LIT.

AC Shadows looks solid but yeah way more interested in the ninja character’s gameplay. Ubisoft writing is always so….stiff so my expectations there are about 0 but set and setting is all I really care about and if they get the open world map to be an enjoyable experience with minimal bloat and get the atmosphere of feudal Japan right it’s gonna be a smash hit

isn’t that supposed to be the live service hub thing that’s supposed to like connect all future titles or something and that’s how they’re carrying on the modern day story or did they abandon that absolutely stupid as fuck idea

    Player's Log: LIT/Double Dragon Neon

    On LIT:

Okay, so this was a relatively bite-size game, although my understanding is that there are actually three different versions of this game.

First, the jist is that you're a kid trying to find his girlfriend and has to make use of various tools like lightbulbs and baseballs to clear a light path in the darkness, or you'll get taken by monsters. Pretty simple concept, executed adequately.

There's a Wii version that has 3D graphics, is a much larger game, and goes deeper on the horror and lore, and then there's a mobile version which is 2D, which the Steam version is based off of.

The Steam version is only 16 levels, and the goal is to get good enough at getting through each level to meet certain time and step requirements, and I assume by meeting all the goals, you unlock the best ending. I did not.

There are no achievements, and I don't really feel compelled to get better at the game to unlock that ending. I don't know if I particularly feel up to seeking out the Wii version either, or at least not right now.

    On Double Dragon Neon:

I actually started this with a trainer on because I suck at these kinds of games. That said, I loved the Double Dragon series as a kid, II especially being my favorite.

Neon is a fair revamp of the formula, with a nice enough 3D style with a lot of 80s pizzaz. The soundtrack is especially jammin', and it's interesting that you can earn power-ups in the form of cassette tapes that can be levelled up to be stronger.

That said, I don't know that I'm especially going to stick with this game, as the achievements are almost all a bit out of my league, even with a trainer. One is to hit every enemy with the hair clip weapon at least once. Another is to beat the game without using any special attacks.

Like... those are real achievement achievements, and I dunno if I'm down for that. I might fuck with it a bit more tomorrow and see how I feel.
