Was going to try and wait but decided to read it just in case I can't watch the whole presentation live. I was a little surprised that after all the insight he received - there was nothing about iPad OS and what they are doing with that. That is what I'm probably most interested in for tomorrow. Makes me worried that there's not going to be much new or groundbreaking they are going to offer.

In his latest newsletter Gurman reiterated that Apple is deliberately holding back the iPad - it’s a business strategy - so I wouldn’t expect anything new besides the AI stuff that is already coming to iOS and maybe some minor refinements to iPadOS. I think people have to accept that a hybrid iPad-MacOS is just never going to happen at this point.

I've been saying it - if they wanted to change up the platform's OS they would have held the devices until today. Those devices releasing last month was the sign that nothing would fundamentally change.

Maybe it's because nothing was surprising I'm whelmed.

The watchOS updates were huge, though.

Smart Script is pretty cool. I will hopefully benefit from that.

  10. The Messages and Control Center updates all look great. I'm especially excited for third-party developer support for Control Center.

@TheBaroness @bradpetrik - Well y'all were right. They really doubled down on the "this is an ipad and not some hybrid macOS + iPadOS that a small niche of people yearn for" with the updates today. lol

I wish I was wrong! The updates were *fine* for iPad OS but ultimately it makes me go "I'm never buying a new iPad again".

All of the references to "machine learning" instead of AI tells you this was filmed a month ago.

Same. I knew they wouldn't have a massive update, but I definitely feel a little let down after those updates to iPadOS which is sad because some of the updates they did announce are dope - I was just hoping for a little more to the multitasking/file management side of iPadOS. Oh well. It definitely cements my choice of an 11" over the 13" if it's not going to lean more into a laptop replacement on the OS side.

Safari updates along with the passkey app have me contemplating switching back to Safari from ARC...

Arc has never worked for my brain. I've always been a Safari user since the beginning.

Same. I've always been team Safari. It's the first browser I ever tried that stuck longer than a few days.

All of the past keynotes showing features similar to these is making me skeptical of them working as shown.

I wonder if in their internal discussions they talked about retiring Siri and using this as a launchpad for a complete new assistant, and if so, how close did they actually get to doing so?

Not that I ever thought they would, but if it was even a discussion, i'm glad they kept siri around for the new AI chapter.
