This could easily be my favorite album from Dave.

 

I missed some of it but it's kind of its own thing. probably closer to phoenix overall

 

I can definitely see where this is all going now. We're building up to the big reveal of Dave as a person.

 

Hyped as fuck for this. Bazan is a treasure.

 

Really enjoying this. Don't remember much at all from Havasu but I loved Phoenix.

 

Havasu definitely suffered as a result of the pandemic. Wasn’t nearly as collaborative as Phoenix but I also choose to believe it’s meant to be a bit dour and monotonous considering the time of his life it’s based on.

 

All of the album art from this series converging into Dave’s face is incredible.

 

I love a good start it over the second it’s ended album.

god this is so good. he’s so good at getting to the root of a communicable, shareable feeling at the bottom of a hyper-specific story. he’s the master of that. it’s amazing

 

Growing up in church and youth group, the title track is hitting on a v real level

 

What?! ;D oh yeah, I might be able to see it with this one. I think I've already stated I really don't love those album covers, but all three albums themselves are great - Santa Cruz is definitely more surprising too

 

little help is such a great song. the little high note he hits at the end when he sings “i was getting pretty used to drowning” slays me

 

You really start to see it with this one.

 

Really enjoyed my first listen. Excited to spend more time with it, but I could easily see it settling into my top three Pedro albums.

 

My review of Santa Cruz:

holy fuck this album

 

I'm digging the instrumentation on this much more than Havasu, but the specificity of the lyrics prevent me from connecting to it like those on Havasu. Bummed.

 

Spend Time is a bop

 

i've been super lukewarm on the hometown albums but enjoyed the hell out of my first listen. love that he brought back the care era sound

 

I personally really love super specific lyrics that I don’t necessarily relate to, but can empathize with. Growing up in an extremist Christian environment definitely makes some of this hit home for me. But overall this is basically everything I love about Dave’s music and writing in one and this is probably gonna be in my top 3 of his releases across all his projects.

 

This just took me from a “maybe I’ll listen to this over the weekend” to a “shit I need to hear this today.” Blanco and Care are some of my favorite Bazan.

yeah second listen just reaffirmed this is definitely my favorite thing he's done since care
