Yeah that’s exactly what I mean, I have that problem too, but I’m trying to do it differently

  2. Definitely a trap I fall into sometimes too. Having playlists instead of just listening to albums is helpful. Between spotify liked songs + a big general playlist where I add the top maybe 1/3rd of my liked songs + genre specific versions of that for which I am a little less stringent in adding songs seems to help me strike a good balance. Plus playlists for different years.

That way if I'm looking at my recently added albums (that I probably haven't heard yet) and none of them are calling to me I throw on one of those playlists and either enjoy some nice tracks I know I like or maybe one of them is from an album I kinda forgot about that I wanna put on.

  3. Of course then you get the problem of spotify's terrible shuffling lol

sure but you cant deny people dont let things grow on them anymore especially not the way you did pre streaming and even pre digital where your money was on the line so if you bought an album you were gonna spend time with it. streaming is great and has given us a huge library of music from every era at the tip of our fingers but its come at the cost of spending time with albums on a meaningful level. not the people who use this site mind you hardcore music lovers will always be around but more generally on a cultural level music is this disposable thing now

The new Juicy J is fun. The fact that this man can create mostly good albums that still feel like his early shit 30+ years into his career is pretty wild

I've got to a point with music where I can normally tell fairly quickly whether i'm gonna like an album or not. Sometimes i'll persevere even if nothing jumps out at me, but 9 times out of 10, you can tell from the first 3/4/5 tracks (depending on album length) whether it's gonna stick.

I'm also not as on it with new music as I used to be because i'm forever finding music from years ago that I never discovered at the time or it was before my time. I've lost that urge to be on the cusp of new music that I had about 10 years ago when I had to listen to everything. I see people who only listen to the new music out each Friday and it takes up most of their week and then the next Friday rolls around and they haven't caught up with the music from the previous Friday. Seems waaaaaaaaaay too much hassle for me haha

Wild that this is only five years older than the Ja album in a way

Yeah, I had that Ja album coming out in 2001 in my head. But I guess this was before he flirted with RnB and got big.

Holla Holla will forever be my favourite track of his.

I don't really care for Eminem for the most part, but I will admit the new single absolutely reminds me of his TRL hits

I mean that’s pretty simple to do when the song is built around one of his TRL hits lol. Basically cheating

There have been so many failed attempts from other artists to replicate an older sound, but I think this actually does it
