I think Sempiternal is great but There Is a Hell is really on its own tier in their discography for me

I’ve talked about it at length in the underoath thread but it really is wild how good 2010 was for metalcore.

How to tell everyone you don’t know the genre without directly telling them you don’t know the genre…

    Or something like that probably

My favorite here is probably n/A. The lyrics really hit different when you feel like a worthless piece of shit which is me right now (and always)

Heh n/a is the only definite skip for me. I get a little fatigued at the back of the record but overall I agree with the strongly positive sentiments here.

Despite all the accents from the scene and nu-metal heydays I love that this could have only come out now. It’s to invigorating.

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Drop the list (I’m legit interested lol - want to make sure I didn’t miss any from that year)

I was kinda baffled how much I saw people hailing Sempiternal as BMTH's masterpiece when I came across their subreddit, I thought the prevailing opinion would have been highest on There is a Hell.

BMTH - there is a hell
    The chariot - long live
    Letlive - fake history
    Norma Jean - meridonal
    Underoath - disambigustion
    Woe is me - numbers
The acacia strain - wormwood (I got into this one much much much later)
Dillinger escape plan - option paralysis

    probably even more than that

Tonight, my wife unexpectedly confessed to me that Lost annoys her and I think a piece of me has died inside.

Sempiternal is a little higher than There is a Hell for me but I have similar feelings about both. Some fantastic songs but they start to get a little boring in the back half. The Post Human albums have taken these guys from a band I like to a band I love.

There Is a Hell is so ridiculously good. It Never Ends was a massive song for me the year it came out. Really the start of what this band would go on to do

Back in 07 charges were dropped after a reported assault involving urine, if that's what you're referring to?

To be fair, they were dropped because there wasn't enough evidence to continue, not because he was found innocent. It is a very clear distinction.

I'm a little surprised at how much the scales here seem to tip in favor of There is a Hell. I love that album, but I guess I always felt like Sempiternal was a more fully realized version of the band at that time. It's definitely my favorite of theirs, and it kinda felt like a watershed moment for the genre in the 2010s.

Wife thoughts while listening to this on our drive to the beach:

“This sounds like a whole bunch of different styles of songs that they put together?”

“this one sounds like Deftones” (YouTopia)

“This one also sounds like Deftones” (Limousine)

“is this the one they did with Underøath? This instrumentally sounds like Underøath” (Bullet)

“This is their ‘Muse’ song” (n/A)

“oh is this the one with ‘something medicine not doing anything?!’” (Lost)

*sings along to the chorus of AmEn*

    *sings Die 4 U*

Me: “Ok this next song is the last song”
Her: “Wait I’m confused why Die 4 U was on there why did they re-release it?”

    Me: “final thoughts?”
    Her: “I like it.”

So happy I have another band to share with her, ha.

  25. Not familiar with The Acacia Strain and I'm sure I wrote Woe Is Me off due my strong dislike of "Risecore" back then so I'm curious to check both out without any preconceptions this time
