This might be the first week of the year I don’t have anything I want to check out. Open to recs, typically gravitate toward hardcore, punk, stuff in that realm

Outgrown is a perfect way to put it. I just gave the newest record a listen and I still enjoy the 'Say Anything' sound; Max's voice, etc., but boy some of the lyrics just make me cringe.

The lyrics read like a serial killer’s manifesto at this point.

Yeah I went in with an open mind and really enjoyed seeing Say Anything live with Manchester Orchestra last summer. That show revived my interest in the band. However listening to this I'm pretty bummed. I love hearing Brian from Weatherbox in some of these songs. So far I do enjoy this more than the last few albums. We will see if it's a grower at all, or a few listens and that's enough.

Musically, Say Anything have some of the best sounds since Real Boy but even the disclaimer intro doesn’t make these lyrics ok, to me. I was hoping Brian and Fred could polish this psychosis down a bit, they sounded amazing at the 20th anniversary show I went to. Vape clouds and all, I can handle some immaturity from him-oh well. It’s worth a listen nonetheless

the Tiny Habits album that came out this week is very good — RIYL 3 part harmony chill indie/pop folk like Boygenius

Dang, musically I like the new SA record, but the lyrics absolutely ruin it.
