Anybody going to this this weekend as it kicks off?

 

Can’t wait to see them this weekend! This will be my 6th Legend show but my first since 2017 from right before few dropped. Also stoked to see Codeseven for the first time.

 

LA show was postponed because the band got food poisoning.

 

Just got in the mood to throw on Lord Slug and it's still wild to me how overlooked they are by so many when they put out bangers like this

 

That riff is just stupid heavy. I hope they add that to their live sets because I'd love to break my neck headbanging to it.

 

Checked out Johnny Booth since they are on the tour. Can’t get enough. Stoked for their set now.

At this point, I feel like this band needs a second chance from me but I am Hollywood is just an amazing album from front to back, and the follow up was awful that I fell off hard. Do more of their newer albums go back to that type of sound?

You won't regret it. I saw their small headlining tour, and then again when they opened for Silent Planet. Make sure you know Deepfake and the breakdown 'call outs' for that. Goes HARD live and is always the highlight of their set. I don't know why the band took so long between albums and then never toured and are now all over the place for shows. I also like they haven't shown a sign of softening up besides a song or 2 on the new album. Straight up heaviness.

 

They never really go back to the sound of I Am Hollywood, but I highly recommend checking out It Hates You and White Bat if you want to give them a second chance.

 

Absolutely wild to me that some people think Suck Out the Poison is awful even now. Sure his voice was adjusting to his newer tone but his uncleans and the instrumentation? All killer

 

It Hates You is probably the closest they get, but it's not super similar.

I can definitely see why people were thrown off with Suck Out the Poison, because it really does sound like a completely different band most of the time. I personally loved it though. If you saw them live or saw any videos of them playing during the I Am Hollywood cycle, they already sounded like the band they'd become on SotP.

 

Poison has so many jams. Mushroom River still knocks my socks off

 

I still remember when they released that as the first single and everyone was freaking out because it had nu-metal influence. Turns out He Is Legend were ahead of their time lol.

 

Schuylar alluded to a suck out the poison 20 year tour tonight.

 

Oh hell yes. It's been so long since they've busted out some of the deep cuts on that album. First time I saw them was in 2007 and they played most of that record because they were sick of playing the Hollywood cuts. Would love to see Serpent Sickness, Pot Bellied Goddess, and (((louds again.

Teasing for 2 years from now lol? Or are they gonna go the route of starting an anniversary tour earlier, I know some bands did it because of Covid and such.

 

after the Hollywood set they played 4 other tracks-including Attack of The Dungeon Witch and before kicking in he said “who knows maybe we’ll come back around when this one turns 20”. Got a huge cheer and the crowd went off for that song.

 

I've been on a huge HIL kick lately. Listened through Heavy Fruit all the way for the first time in forever and I am now listening to SOTP all the way through. Man, I love these guys. They have such a deep and varied discography. I know it's been said ad nauseum, but they deserve so much more love and attention. I would kill for a vinyl press and/or 20th anniversary tour of SOTP. It's one of my all-time favorite albums.

 

The first time I saw them live was during the SotP touring cycle and they played damn near the whole record live. It was great. I’m glad Dungeon Witch and Magnolia are live staples, but I would absolutely love to see them play some deep cuts from that album again.

 

the only time i’ve seen these dudes live was when they were touring SOtP, top ten concert memory for me was Steve ripping Pot Bellied Goddess in just a pair of Daisy Duke cutoff shorts with a massive mustache.

 

I don't think HIL ever did or ever will go 'back to' IAH's sound but I think what makes the difference for me in their discography is IAH songs had good melody/structure and didn't go 'heavy for heavy's sake' like I feel a lot of Endless Hallway did.

I too was turned off by Suck out the Poison as a followup release, took me years to warm up to it. Getting it in good quality and listening on good equipment did help me quite a bit on that front.

For me the best post-IAH album is actually few, because I feel like the band had the patience and forethought in constructing those songs that it didn't have to facemelt in the first 30 seconds, and building properly throughout the song was done.

If you haven't been able to enjoy any post-IAH stuff, I recommend throwing on tracks from few, specifically Silent Gold, Gold Dust, and Eastern Locust.
