Don't we have this conversation about the Mountain Goats every year? I feel like they always have a tour without a Chicago date around that time of year. And they never play. Haha.

Maybe this will be the year?!!

I am manifesting it this year. They always have a Chicago date each year it feels like and they haven’t come here at all since last summer. So this time seems a bit more plausible since they are hitting a few midwest cities in the summer but not Chicago.

They are one of those bands where it’s like “Why haven’t you played yet?” haha

  3. Would love to see an "all bangers" Mountain Goats set at Riot Fest. I don't mind seeing the quieter songs and John's solo acoustic part of the set at club shows, but give me all the fast songs outdoors.

Coady from Murder City Devils said in a post they have “more live shows coming up.” Last time they played Riot was 2014 and the last time they played Chicago was 2017. This year would be a solid year to return

Laura Jane manifested her own Operation Ivy show.. it's possible she could have requested Mountain Goats finally play Riot (she's covered a bunch of their stuff)

I guess Rise Against could still be added in the mini-second wave after the fact if their Chicago show is sold out before Riot.

What venue are they playing in October?

Might end up in Chicago a day or two earlier to catch this show.

Which they’ll sell out no matter what because of hometown but I doubt they get added.

Bands drop out every year on Riot (at least since 2021).. it doesn't hurt to get backup plans

Honestly I feel like with Rise Against they play Chicago often enough where I am content if they don’t play again for a while. It gives room for bands who have played the festival/Chciago more infrequently or never a spot.

Yeah, I would only be really excited about it if Riot could convince them to do an album play or something.

    like Taking Back Sunday?

Also apparently Rise Against will be playing more older stuff than usual on this upcoming tour... so a dress rehearsal at Riot isn't the worst idea if someone drops out, eesh

I’ll 100% be at the Chicago rise against show. It’s a Friday which is awesome. I Haven’t missed a home town show in 13 years

Maybe if they need a back-up if somebody bigger dips out but... I doubt they get added as part of a second wave.

There's reasons other than "we have another Chicago show" for a band of their size to not play Riot.

And just like that, there's a pair of bands for that NOFX stage!

Surfbort is opening the date with them in St. Louis two days before Riot

also if Riot can get Corey Feldman, then they definitely need to get former Circle Jerks collaborator

Do we think they are both playing on 9/20? I would assume so because it would be weird to have a placeholder date on a tour shirt. But that raises a couple more questions for me. I assumed they would split and each be a direct support band for NoFX if they played multiple days. And honestly, both of them playing was evidence to me that NoFX would have more than one set. And is NoFX really playing on Friday? I thought that they would be Saturday and/or Sunday, especially with Sum 41’s final Chicago stop being on Friday already.

Y’know, those are all good points. I’d assume both are on the same day. But maybe they’re on a different day than NOFX?

That’s all confusing to me now. LOL

I’m just going to hope that NoFX is playing all three days and they have such a great lineup for that stage all weekend that they were fine with having both play the same day. Unrealistic probably, but that is my dream until they announce otherwise.
