My partner and I have "Find My Phone" activated on both our devices specifically for situations like this. If one of us notices our phone is missing, the other can check its location to track it down.

We've never been pick-pocketed but I've had a phone fall out of my pocket and she left hers at a booth once at a festival... Both times that app helped us track it down. And in those settings we always keep our ringers on so that we can call it and hear the ringing if we need to.

Not sure how effective any of this would be if somebody outright stole it (because I'd imagine they'd flip the ringer off pretty quickly) but it helps in terms of accidental loss for sure.

  4. I keep my phone, wallet, and keys in my front pockets (at all times, not just at festivals), so they would be pretty tough to steal. I also have my hands in my pockets a lot.

At a minimum if you catch a pickpocketer in the act is to make them known to the crowd around you. There's way more people not pickpocketing than pickpocketing, so they're outnumbered and highly vulnerable if called out.

Essentially, make the pickpocketers feel small and know that there will be no tolerance displayed in various ways. It's distracting from the show but at least people are actively looking out for each other, which also builds community.

I usually bring a fanny pack with me at festival to hold my phone and wallet. The only time I got pickpocket at a concert was when I didnt bring the fany pack

This is a great suggestion! This is what my partner and I are doing in Europe for vacation next week, and I think we'll probably apply it if we wind up going to Riot Fest this year too.

They posted a teaser clip of a demo of a new song on their insta yesterday too (now deleted). Hoping it means they're fully back at least for an album cycle. Been dying to see them again and for some new material.

Pickpockets have been a thing at festivals for a while now. Once they get your phone it's shipped to China and you get a bunch of threatening text messages, but if you ignore them you will be fine.

I was at Coachella last month and soooo many times saw someone drunk/high say that their phone was “stolen” just for someone else to find it on the ground 5 minutes after the first person walked away. Guarantee when they got home from the fest they told people/posted about their phone getting stolen when they just lost it themselves lol

I started using a neck wallet and now always take it on vacation or festivals. Convenient and I feel more secure with phone/money/cards

I’ve got running tights with built in pockets that I wear under running shorts and just use those.

I put it in a mini backpack or fanny pack and tie the zippers closed. an old 21+ wristband works really well and are easy to untie and I just change it out when they start to deteriorate. for fanny packs, I like to add a giant safety pin from Amazon threaded through the strap to tie the knot to to make sure it doesn't come unzipped while I'm moshing, crowdsurfing, etc. I've only ever had problems with theft when I didn't tie the zippers closed.

Whenever I'm out in public I feel like I unconsciously pat my pockets every 30 seconds. I think it's just a symptom of living in New York City my whole life lol

I keep my wallet and phone in my front pockets, keys in my back pocket. Can't imagine why someone would want to steal my house keys without knowing where I live

  22. at shows, i put my wallet in my front pocket. my phone is always in my front pocket too. and i make sure to stand somewhere where i have some space around me.

i think most pickpocketing probably happens when everyone gets jumping in a pit and while they're smashed up to you jumping along, they pull your phone out because it's hard to notice in that scenario.

Also doesn't hurt to double check before the show that your FindMyiPhone security measures are active and working too
