We reach for the longest shadow

I can't really pinpoint why, but Tear felt like I really needed to be in the mood to listen to it. Maybe how dark the subject matter/story was? But I don't feel that way so far with this one. It's a nice sunny day out, and I'm totally cool to blast this while driving around later.

The Calm and Thirst and the last song are probably my favorites of the non-singles

special shoutout to the grind/drone note in Slaughterhouse Pt. 2 that shit goes hard and sets the song apart from the rest of the album, fucking gnarly

I sat in my hotel room with some headphones to listen to this.

Woof, a lot of thoughts. Sit & Mourn actually made me cry, the lyrics REALLY hit me. Fuck.

Also on Slaughterhouse 2, I think I know why it doesn't hit quite the same as the rest of the album. I do actually still really like the song, but it almost feels a little too trapped by the first Slaughterhouse from MiW? Lyrically calling back to the first one is cool, but even the breakdown on here is a callback to the first one which I really liked! But they could have done something a bit more with it.

However I will say no matter how you feel about it, "You tower above/Pretending like you still care/Your father's work/Paraded like it's yours to share" goes hard

Haha generally, I do read along to make sure I'm hearing what I think he's saying is right

I find this album to be way less polished than tear in the fabric of life, that album has a very balanced and clean mix. this album sounds like it’s going to rip my speakers open at any moment (in a good way). it’s nasty.

yeah idk they’re throwing in so much harsh noise, weird percussion, and have a very inaccessible production style after getting slicker and slicker up to this point, none of that is safe for a band of their size. and sorry but I refuse to engage with music comments on Reddit lol

If I could just forget it

Sit & Mourn is far and away my favorite. That ending is fantastic.

    Really enjoyed this overall.

obviously not that similar structurally but Blinding Faith --> Sit and Mourn feels very much like Thaw --> Jane Doe to me

  17. This is one of the most audacious and confident albums I've ever heard. That snare they whip out sometimes that sounds like hitting an anvil or sheet metal is one of the wildest drum production techniques I've ever heard in metal.
