didn't mean to imply it wasn't legitimate to question the correlation between donations and a candidate's policies, just that i think when you get mired in individual contributions that amount to a relatively insignificant percentage of fundraising(particularly when the other campaign can easily muck things up), you're not going to get much traction on the issue.

i'm voting for and have donated to bernie, i just don't feel the same desire to reiterate things in here that i know we all agree on, that i know aren't going to be challenged or challenging. i'm not interested in feeding an echo chamber. i don't post here to have my worldview reaffirmed, i post here for varying degrees of discussion. so if i see something in here that i think is misguided and has gone unchallenged, i say something.

we could always just go back to the days when the thread was a repository of links with zero discussion.

    I see. Thanks.
Yeah, those were dark times. I wasn't trying to say that I thought your posts weren't informative or valuable to the discussions. Quite the opposite actually.

Voting to stay. The popular arguments for leaving are generally very reactionary and inaccurate, and even looking past that it seems like a high risk/low reward scenario at best.

Someone wanna explain it? I'm just now seeing stuff pop up about it....is it basically that the world's rich elite and world leaders are avoiding taxes?

I just created its own thread in politics, thought a scandal of this magnitude deserved its own. Probably will be getting worse through the week.

I didn't know you were from Britain. I would've guessed "somewhere far away". Yes that'll do.

New York and California both signed into law a $15 minimum wage. California will increase each year and get to $15 by 2022. NYC will get to $15 by 2018, surrounding counties by 2021, and a few years later for the rest of the state.

$15 minimum wage coming to New York, Calif.

Krugman has gone completely off the rails

Sanders supporters have, to a much greater extent than generally acknowledged, been motivated by the perception that Clinton is dishonest, which comes — whether they know it or not — not from her actual behavior but from decades of right-wing smears; but Sanders himself got to play the issue-oriented purist, in effect taking a free ride on other peoples’ character defamation.

This is one of the most despicable parts of the Democratic Party as it currently stands: it actually believes its own totally performative bullshit.

Hillary Clinton will go down in history as an evil fucking tyrant, war criminal, violent racist, etc. etc. etc. but now these are all just republican smears.

    Infuriating.

"The white backlash to civil rights helped resurrect the Republican Party after the disastrous Goldwater campaign in 1964, and, over the last five decades, the Democratic Party has followed the electorate to the right.

This poses the biggest problem for black voters today, which is that Democrats running for state or national office aspire to win black votes without appearing to be beholden to black voters. This is especially true of the three Democratic presidents since Kennedy and Johnson. Black support was crucial to the elections of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton (each received over 80 percent of black votes), but both distanced themselves from policies that might seem to disproportionately help black people."

One of the dumbest fucking things I've ever read

I'm done with Bernie Sanders: Why this democratic socialist is voting for Hillary Clinton

Both Clinton and Sanders are effective progressive fighters. Sanders is not a purer progressive choice, merely a different one. While this piece has examined the holes in the Sanders mythology, I believe without reservation that both Democratic candidates represent positive values and a more progressive path to the future.

When I head into the polling booth, I’m looking for the person with the best proven record of influencing positive change. I will vote for the Democratic nominee in the general election. Period.

The strongest person in this primary race is Hillary Clinton, a successful Secretary of State whose career has been marked by bold positions on major issues, like granting children access to healthcare and ensuring the rights of women abroad.

I’m proud to cast my vote, once again, for a whip-smart, pragmatic and effective progressive woman. And I can’t wait for little girls across this country to hear the phrase “Madame President” for the first time in history.

Most importantly, I’m proud to cast my vote for a party that has shown moral growth and represents the best of our country, as opposed to the greed and fear-driven party of opposition.

Just by merit of his claiming to be a "democratic socialist" as if the moniker couldn't be anymore diluted in American discourse, I hope this prick gets bent. Also, look out for a number of logical fallacies (A can't challenge B for doing C because A does C more than D).

I completely agree, I read this bullshit earlier today. Salon just like Politico have become just a mouthpiece for the establishment.

I wonder why they're doing the weird order tonight with the interview being the B segment and this being the end of the show. I guess they just wanted to spend more time on Panama Papers than DWS?

I don't think this was a corporate hit job: I just genuinely think that the author is a moron who is no more than a political trend hopper at his greatest. I also haven't appreciated those two site being particularly biased, at least to the disgusting level of outlets like WashPo, CNN, NYTimes, etc.

The Hill had given even coverage, but they have been riding the Sanders train to some benefit lately it seems, which is only marginally better.
