Its adorable you'd think that would work. I put a 1hr timer on my Twitter like 2 years ago...and I'd be that rat tasing myself 24/7 if I had kept that timer alive long-term.

I don’t really agree. It doesn’t make sense to put the same archetype of player (lack of length and mass, makes up for it with explosiveness) on the line of scrimmage when we already had problems with Ridley doing it. Pearsall is capable of becoming as good of a route runner as Ridley but in the short term it would be a downgrade that recreates a lot of problems that Trev struggled with. The hope was that Ridley was that rare super elite route runner who can dodge physical jabs consistently from the best CBs, and the results were hit or miss despite us high success rate on almost every route he ran.

It’s not that I think you have to be a bully to play X - and Ricky’s toughness and vertical leap isn’t a question - but I do think not having length or size definitely limits you. Both at the LOS when you’re trying not to let someone lock out their arms into your chest and throw you off your route, and at the catch point when you’re trying to snatch the ball before a CB can reach his arm in. There are exceptions (Steve Smith probably the biggest) but if Ricky was THAT good against physical coverage for his size he’d be going first round. His production each year (even with AR two seasons ago) was just okay, it’s not like it showed up in every game.

I like Ricky’s contested catch skills but don’t trust that his ability to be physical would translate as well in a league where most CBs have at least his length. He’d be way better at Kirk’s hybrid slot / Z role *in my opinion*.

If we want two of those and we trust our current X receiver, that would not be outlandish but I wouldn’t agree with it at all as a solution to the problem and would personally grade it like we addressed the WR hole somewhat, but inefficiently. If we’re gonna do that then I’d rather have signed Ridley, and to recoup that money, cut Scherff and drafted Fuaga, or maybe cut Cam for that money and go Kool Aid / Blake Fisher or something like that.
